Yugumo's are nice DD's.  Until the Fletcher's arrive at least.

If you have a couple of experienced DDs you can take on Fletchers, especially at night

Even though the AA additions help as CV escorts, they really get neutered in combat by having 1/3 of the 12.7cm guns removed. I've been noticing a distinct difference in later 43.

Too bad stock game got Yugumos wrong. IRL Yugumos never lost 3rd turret. Yugumos had model D turret that had genuine AA capacity unlike earlier turret model Kageros were using.

Babes have fixed that, I think...

Good example for why you always, always escort high value transports. Destroyers can move a long way at full speed, usually further than you think. Those President class transports are doubly valuable since most of them become APA's in 1943; I often have an equal number of DD's and a cruiser or two any time they're somewhere I expect possible enemy surface ships, or within range of Bettys.

I also use this same tactic against the AI in the DEI region. Two or three DD's out of Darwin can get to Timor and hit shipping in those ports in one night at full speed, and still have enough reserve to get out of the area the next morning.

i have seen the reverse of this,1 or 2 ijn DDs slipping in from Macassar to Kopang. past the surface TF,around the PT boats, torching the AMcs and AKLs and back to Kendari for breakfast.

search planes ....we don't see no stinking search planes. argh.
