Does anyone know if games that play well under Windows 7 will play with no problem under Windows 8 or will there be issues?
Thanks.

I've tested Windows 8 with John Tiller's Campaign Series and Combat Command and they both work.

I have been playing WitE on Win 8 for a few weeks(while beta testing,Win 8 that is).

EDIT: I should note I have played more than two dozen games from 5 different game companies with no issues.

I've tried a number of the Matrix Games and Paradox games...all of them have worked so far...including WITE, WITP AE, Crusader Kings 2, Alea Jacta Est, etc. It appears that if they work on Windows 7 they'll probably work on Windows 8...

Any good reason to update to Win 8 at this point if I have a nice standard desktop using Win 7?

IMO no.

If you have XP, the offer for an upgrade for $40 USD to 8 Pro is good until January something. It was worth it to me not to worry about support ending in 2014.

If you have a Windows phone and tablet and want them all synced together then yes, upgrade from vista or 7.

I upgraded this weekend from Win 7. Win 8 seems to be a hell of a lot faster. This is just through normal use of the computer. Additionally the the start-up and shutdown times are much faster on my computer. Overall I am very happy with the speed increase.

Now the bad. The Start button/menu is gone. The Start Screen sucks especially if you hate change and this is a big change for a desktop.

I will probably learn it one of these days, but until then its back to the start button/menu for me. There are several options out there to bring it back. I bought Start8 from Stardock. It works great and only cost 5 bucks or you can use Classic Shell, it's open source and free. They both bring back the Start button as used in Windows 7.

I did something I never do. I upgraded right over my install of Win 7 with all my programs and crap still on the computer. I wanted to see what would happen. The first attempt failed and Win 8 didn't tell me why. I was thinking great now my Win 7 install is toast, but it wasn't Win 8 uninstalled itself and restored my Win 7 everything was there and worked fine. I was impressed. In the past my computer would have been screwed and needing a format.

Long story short it was Asus AI charger causing the problem with installing Win 8. I removed that and Win 8 installed fine right over Win 7 with all my programs still there. Every program I have used has worked fine. Originally I had no plans of getting Win 8, but my son installed the preview version Win 8 on his computer. He noticed a speed increase as well, his computer is fairly old quad AMD cpu, 4GB memory, ATI 4890, etc... The speed increase alone was worth the 40 bucks to me.

I haven't noticed the speed up that others report.

I decided to go with the MS security that comes with it rather than install ZoneAlarm and Avast. Both of those have become resource hogs and bother me with pop ups to buy extra protection.

Not a fan personally of basing the OS off of ARM architecture. I probably wouldn't notice but it seems to me your placing limitations on a machine designed for more.
