Have a question for readers.

I have very rarely done major assaults after the Invasion Bonus has expired. In my game with Lew (July 1942) I am preparing to land at Cocos Isle. In our RA Mod, this base has a stacking limit of 15,000. Currently have FOUR ID prepped at 100% for this base. How should I land? Should I land two ID (25-28,000 men) and deal with the over-stacking penalty? What is the best route for this.

Cocos has been attacked by surface bombardment and aerially for several months. It has eight units including two Brigades.

Thoughts?

Have you considered just letting the defending troops go to rot? If he has the better part of a division their, consider whether or not it is worth the cost.

edit - I just looked at your AAR. I'd go in with the two ID with naval support.

Once you capture the island rebase yout TF to Cocos, change it to a Transport TF and pick up your ID's, making sure you leave a garrison of course.

I could come in with as many as four but am not sure how the overstacking penalty works in an amphibious assault...

overstacking causes increased supply consumption, which increases w/ the amnt of overstack. 10% over, the penalty is barely noticeable. 100% over, the penalty is brutal.

to cope, you need AmphTFs pre-loaded w/ supply unloading every day, 'cos your LCUs will likely be at 0 supply at the end of each day. & JeffK is right, reload your troops as soon as the base changes hands. don't wait 'til you've wiped out any remaining defenders.

I agree, don't over stack on either assault or defense... the penalties can be harsh....

You could keep the 3rd and 4th ID in off shore reserve should you need them.

Besides the overstacking penalties, keep in mind that the more troops you land there, the longer it will take to load them on transports and move them out.

Haven't launched it yet. Will do so in about two weeks of game time.
