I'm having an odd problem. The badly dammaged Dutch K IX (57% floatation damage) refuses to go to Sydney from Darwin. Every time I try, it goes to Koepang instead. I've set home as Sydney, threat tolerance to absolute etc, but it just won't go. I tried telling "her" to go to Cooktown, but that didn't work. Right now, I've got her going to Horn Island and so far (1 turn) it seems to be working.

I had some PT boats do something similar. After the Nips had taken most of the Philippines, some PT's made a completely uncommanded run for Austrila. They ran into some Jap TF's and had some other problems. Eventually they sunk from enemy damage and out of fuel damage. This was after I sent them back to some Philippine islands still in Allied hands a few times.

Thoughts, comments?

I'd say it's failing some kind of die roll to cause to go to nearest port but it's probably trying to go to Soerbaja due to it being the Dutch home port but sees Koepang as nearest Dutch port. I've had similar behavior but I normally send them towards Perth a home base port at a time then down to Melbourne rather than your way to Sydney.

Set home port as Sydmey, click Return to Sydney and set Route Direct, Threat tolerance Absolute.

Yep, that normaly works, but not this time. Like jcjordan says, it seems to be some kind of "panic" or "captan's decision" die roll. Distance seems to be a big factor.

It's day three of my latest attempt, Horn Island, and she is still headed there, but Cooktown was too far or something.

I met with the issue as same as you did.
You should fix the SS in Darwin's port firstly until it was not fixed anymore, then it can go to sydney "happily".

As you've learned, if you have this issue you can often work around it by having it move in smaller steps. Don't forget you can also set home ports to dot bases as well.

Does it have enough endurance to make it to Sydney? Could try to send it to Brisbane instead first.

Also make sure you clear any "Way" points as that might be forcing it to go in very odd directions...

The problem is ship or perhaps captan specific. I've sent other damaged Dutch subs to Sidney with no problems. The ship has suffent range, no waypoints set, etc. I sent it out after all the (precious few)repairs possible at Darwin.

As erstad has noted, very small steps seem to solve the problem. It just took me a while to use a small enough first step.

I've been playing War in the Pacfic ever since the DOS version and it keeps coming up with surprises. Lots and lots of them, most good, some, like this one, odd, and a few ugly.
