Been playing this game since since the day Matrix released the original WitP.....and this game is going until Japanese is a forgotten language!

20 November 1943 - playing as the Allies (DBB A - modified) invading Kavieng with the 6 US original carriers providing air support, the Jap (AI) sends a carrier force to counter the invasion. An allied surface task force of 3 Ca's, 3 CL's and 6 DD's take on 4 CV's, 2 BB's and so on, heavily damaging the Hiryu.

Air strikes the next day. Shokaku, Soryu and ??? sunk and Hiryu apparently under the waves, 2 BB's damaged and their force retires to Rabaul (now surrounded). A fast BB and a cruiser hurt bad, Hornet slips under the waves and Wasp is limping towards the Shortlands.

The luck of the draw in the AI scenarios has made for a very defensive Japan other than the usual carrier raids in the Indian Ocean and between Johnson Is and Palmyra Is, so this is the first significant action of the war.

If I just had a floozy blonde life couldn't get any better!!! Got lots of beer, seven Corvettes - just missing the blonde......

7 corvettes? that's just wretched excess, man!

must've been an exciting game-turn to watch, did you have any NavSearch warning that KB had sortied? if not, kudos for evidently having had a good mix w/ your search/strike & CAP/escort mix. might've gone the other way, if your SurfTF hadn't got its licks in the day before. no doubt you've got a few USMC DB sqns at Shortlands assigned to port-attack Rabaul now.

Then, 2 days later on the 22nd, the Jap AI tried it again....

4 CV's, 2 BB's, 4 CA's with 5-6 DD's ran into Kavieng once again to find 2 fast BB's, 4 CA's and 6 DD's to engage in a surface fight. One CV takes some damage and a few surface ships banged up a bit. Throughout the day the air strikes take place with the result of Yorktown beat up pretty bad and Enterprise with moderate damage. However, all 4 Jap CV's were left with heavy smoke obscuring them (most of them had fuel/ammo explosions).

So, all morning I've been pondering whether or not to let the AI get banged up so bad again, and have decided to go back and replay the 21st and withdraw my ships and let their carriers live to fight another day. I thoroughly enjoyed the first "Midway", but the 2nd is a bit too much.

Jmalter: no, there was no warning of either carrier force sortie even tho each of my carrier's had 20% of the DB's allocated to search and were one hex NW of Kavieng. First notice was when they sortied into Kavieng harbor to attack my surface and amphibious forces, which of course is just pure foolishness on the AI's part.

Wretched excess?? I always said a person can't have too many corvettes, altho I am beginning to think that I may be close to some point of excess with a 60, 62, 64 coupe, 67 convertible, 86, 06 coupe and a 09 Z06. Keeps life fun, along with this game!

I would be more than happy to drive over near Savannah (I know I can get Close to your area!) and help you relieve yourself from some of the worry about the excess.... like the little '67 model, perhaps. I would consider it, of course, a part of supporting the ministry.

Small world.

I too just had my first Midway. Mine happened on Friday of last week, with the Game Date being 11/10/43 iirc. Mine was near Mili, covering invasion of Tarawa. (PBEM)
