Status: offline 		Does anyone change the names on the existing TF's and can anyone give me an idea as to what the best way to name TF's is, ease to us in game etc.

I've only recently started playing AE after having played UV and the original WITP when they first came out (thus my ancient join date, but small number of posts). I tend to name cargo and transport TFs based on their destinations, as handy reminders.

For combat task forces I tend to use historical names, to increase the historical flavor.

Status: offline 		I use names for my convoys... For instance Sapporo2Niigata.3of4. Three of four tells me this is the third group of four total convoys making that run.

If I have the lets say 38th ID in a convoy I'd label it 38ID.to.Lingayen for instance or whatever the heading. I'll also label my surface forces for instance Nagato SAG.

I'll at times name the TF what I want it to do in it's next task or if a number of ships are due to upgrade soon to assist the memory.

Most of my tf I won't name because it's too tedious.

Status: offline 		For submarines, I use the sub's name and patrol number (to help with the post-patrol reports I never get around to writing, but pretend to think I will). For others, I don't bother except to help me remember what the TF is for, usually (a) a supply convoy, (b) a specific-purpose transport TF, or (c) a specific change of base.

Status: offline 		Naming a TF after their assignment is one of the more useful tools in the game :) I name just about all of them, but its done early and only needs to be done once... unless that convoy to Onimato somehow got sunk :P

I use a very similar naming system. Really helps me manage my TF's.

Status: offline 		I agree, it is useful to name a TF after the target or operation that you want it to be part of. For example if you are set to invade Truk, then that would be in the name, alone with other factors, such as first wave, support, or something like that. I also name TFs for their duties. Such as SAG (Surface Action Group) or BG for Battle Group and if it has a CV then CBG. It helps to put a name of any commander that you put into play with that group as well... it helps to ID that group without opening it up... plus such a move reminds me NOT to disband the TF unless I want to loose that TF Commander and have to "rebuy" him for another assignment later on...ugh. Can't waste those PPs, WAY too few of them to begin with... Hal

Status: offline 		Hi, in addition to the others already mentioned I also name my submarine task forces . The way I have them allocated is certain classes for certain sectors of the map.
You may note K6DA's for both SoPac and Coral Sea depending on whether they have the 10 YT or Type 88 gun aboard will make the call to patrol what area.

Status: offline 		+1 I name and allocate my Subs in the same way. At the very beginning when Allied TFs are one per TF I like to name TF from their nickname (i.e. Lady Lex, BigE).

Status: offline 		I also name merchant TF's with the tonnage carried and port size to allow docking. It helps early in the war when ports haven't been expanded much yet. Later on it's not an issue, so I may switch the name to indicate port-->port to keep things clear.

I also throw in some goofy ones for SCTF's such as kick ass or search & destroy etc. This just tells me I can use these TF's spontaneously, they currently have no set mission or role.

For combat TF's, I break tradition and use something overtly sexual -- BIGTITS or something like that.

Status: offline 		I give my TFs historically consistent names, when applicable. For example, BatDiv1 for a TF centered around Nagato and Mutsu, CruRon1 for a TF centered around 4 cruisers, InvRon1 for a TF centered around my fastest AKs/APDs etc. It adds chrome and helps me to keep track of my ships easily.
For convoys, I give them the name of the region they are hauling resources from, for example Korea Resource Conv.1, since their base and destination are already visible if you mouse over the TF.
For submarines, SubDiv1, the number depending on which fleet they operate under. For example, all the submarines operating in the north Pacific would be named SubDiv5.

I just kicked off my own Operation Watchtower.  From memory, the TFs involved:

Lunga Force
Lunga ASW
Tulagi Force
Tulagi ASW
Tulagi Bombardment

Status: offline 		I use the TF name field to hold all kinds of information. Sometimes I'll put "->Truk eta 23Feb42" to tell me where it's going and
when it will get there approx. Also, I use it to be a reminder of something like "tulagi needs fuel", or something lilke
"engrs to Bailkpapan" when I'm moving troops somewhere. All kinds of information can be coded in that field.

Status: offline 		I tend to form TF's for specific functions and name them for that function. Most convoy TF's are named for their origin, destination, cargo and minimum port size. For example a TF transporting fuel and suppies from San Francisco to Pearl Harbor that could dock at a size 4 port would be named "S.F. - P.H. fuel & supplies P/S4". I find the port size information useful for keeping my ports working efficiently. Combat operations get the operation name and function. My operation names are mission descriptive rather than codewords, e.g. "Tarawa Invasion - Amphib". It's pretty boring, but it helps me stay organized.

Status: offline 		When I have a secondary mission planned for the TF after the first one is complete, its helpful to put that in the TF name; "Next: Unit X to Y" or "Then supply to Hellhole Z"
