What is the most effective use of the mish ship types? I can experiment but not efficient give game in progress vs humans.
AE Ammunition ship- In a Replenish TF or in a bombardment/surface TF?
AD Destroyer Tender
AS Submarine Tender- foward base from which SS operate from? Does it need to be a port?
AV Seaplane Tender- at a base with no airfield to support seaplanes based there; to increase air support of base with insufficient baseforces?
AR Repair Ship
AVD Aviation Tender/converted destroyer

AE disbanded in port, needs to have supply loaded on board. This makes a small port able to handle reloads of the BBs, etc.

AD disbanded in port. Enables DDs to replenish torpedoes in a small port.

AS disbanded in port. Enables subs to replenish torpedoes in small port and assists in repairs to subs, like and AR for surface vessels.

AV disbanded in a port or a dot hex enables seaplanes to operate without a base force. If memory serves some supply is needed at hex. This type operates in addition to air support at a base so if your BF gives support to 30 planes and the AV can support 12 floats then you'll see 30 + 12. Only supports floatplanes and seaplanes.

AR disbanded in port adds the equivalent to 1 to a port's size for ship repair purposes. You'll never go over 9, but a small port can become a haven to damaged vessels near the action.

AVD see AV. It's just smaller and faster.

Hi,

1945 or later you can use the AEs for replenishment of smaller guns (effect less than 60 according to the manual) from replenishment TFs. Before that I think that the only effect is that you can replenish ammo at a port hex when there's no supply at the port if the AE has supply.

As far as I remember BB's can resuppply at any port size in WitP but require larger ports in WitP-AE.

Yes, that's the conversion of AE to AKE (if I remember the designation right).

Thanks for the info. ONe of the key points is to disband in port. My two games are still in Dec-41.

Think you are confusing WitP with WitP-AE. AKE only exist in AE so there's no conversion needed in WitP.

Entirely possible as I live in the state of confusion full time.

I am pretty sure that the AV and AVD will support sea plane and flying boat ops from beaches, ie these ships do not need to be disbanded into a port, simply anchored at a friendly beach hex.

I believe that the AD when disbanded in port also serves as a AR for destroyers. AGP's are PT tenders and allow PT boats to rearm their torpedo tubes in small ports. I believe AE's also unload in one turn even over the beach so they can be a risky way to guarantee invasion supply. AV's also "stack" as their seaplane support totals add up. By the mid-game I usually end up with ad hoc fleet train squadrons with 1 AD, 1 AS, 3 AR, 1 AGP, and some AV/AVD so any convenient port with a rating of at least a three can be a fully functional forward naval base.

The AD is suppposed (I've never verified but trust the manual) to help out with the repairs and so is the AGP with PT boats (as well as the AS for subs as mentioned above).
They will only help 2 ships each and they do it by increasing the port size (in the repair calculations).
