So I guess I'm a bit confused here. Do you have any idea why Steve would be trying a landing in Rangoon? Also, you have like an 8 to 1 AV ratio in Rangoon; one shock attack should cause them all to surrender. Seems like a silly way to waste units for the Allies at this point when he should be prepping for an invasion of Ceylon.

As for Singapore the only thing you can really do is mass up those IJA bombers and keep the airfield under constant repair. As long as he has an airfield to repair, he can't rebuild his forts. Rule #1 in my book for assaulting major bases is to never let your opponent rebuild those forts you work so hard to bring down. Those losses are a bit easier to stomach knowing the next assault, whenever it will be, will be against a lower level fort. But even then, I'm surprised you're having so much trouble with it given that you've dedicated over 5,000 AV to it. What do you plan on doing with those units after they sack Singapore?

Steve moved most of his Chinese troops overland to Burma so I'm guessing he is trying to put my troops between a rock and a hard place.

I saw his TFs with my air search in time to get troops down to Rangoon but I had to un-ass Toungoo to do so. And I barely made it down. My last ground unit from Toungoo finished unpacking from using the rails this turn.

I'll continue to hold off on the attack as Steve keeps massing ships in the Rangoon hex to support his invasion. This makes going after his shipping a lot like fishing in a small pond with hand grenades.

I need to neuter Port Blair tho. Steve is flying 4E out of there and I want to bring my mini-KB up.

Singapore fell last turn to a shock attack. These units will goto Sumatra & India I think. I really need to get some oil/fuel.

I'll continue to hold off on the attack as Steve keeps massing ships in the Rangoon hex to support his invasion. This makes going after his shipping a lot like fishing in a small pond with hand grenades.

Good point. You don't even need to give him bait for this trap so why not let him jump in it on his own accord! Although after those naval battles last turn and all those torpedoes his battleships took he'd have to be crazy to stay even one day longer.

There goes Singapore and you are doing great work at Rangoon. I don't understand his push on Rangoon.

Punish him!

Well done. That Nachi TF certainly did it's job. I agree. They will be singing his praise at least until around '45!

Thanks obvert, Lowpe, & Sangeli for the attaboys. It was a cool turn due to Nachi but that TF was in truth a long-shot. Now that turn is already past-tense.

I'm ramping things up tho.

I'm getting ready to para-drop on Sampit next turn. I've moved a lot of air groups about and I'm getting ready for Sumatra and Burma-II.

Singapore
I’m pulling DMS from around the map and running them to Singapore. They’ll strip the mines from that base and then I’ll use them for clearing Palembang, Merak, & Oosthavan.

I’ve got a good fighter CAP around Singapore while I await supplies and air support for this base. The 5th Air Division HQ is aboard a TF in the South China Sea and en route to Singapore. I’m also sending 15 sub chasers from Tokyo to Singapore…

Sumatra
I’m reconnoitering the enemy bases on the east side of the Strait of Malacca to see what Steve has going on. It looks like he’s been investing in Sabang for a while now…

Burma
Mini-KB is about to run up the Strait of Malacca to support operations up around Rangoon. A 5BB TF is near Miri and will refuel next turn before heading up towards Rangoon also.

The two Chinese Divisions @ Singapore are prepping for rail and will head up to Chiang Mai to meet a pair of engineer units. I’m going to march those down that back-door path to Taung Gyi. I also added an Oscar air group as Steve has been pounding at that base with some of his 4E units. It’ll be nice to give them a little surprise.

I’m massing more transport and engineers @ Hanoi/Haiphong plus pulling another supply TF from Tokyo so I can feed Kunming & Tsuyung. Steve has a stack of 23 enemy LCU just outside of Tsuyung that I want to pound and route so I can push into Burma.

@ Rangoon I’m performing a Shock attack to route Steve’s troops that have landed here. Steve has forces @ Bassein, which I own but is currently empty. I’m going to try to stand at Pegu and drive Steve back from Bassein & Prome.

By next turn I will be ready to start air operations against Port Blair & Sabang. I want to take out Steve’s air support and then run a strong amphibious assault at Ramree Isle and take Steve’s legs out from behind him.

What I hope Burma will look like is:
- A push from the East
- A back-door from Thailand
- A wall @ Prome & Pegu
- A back-attack from Ramree
- All covered with air and naval superiority.

China
In China 700AV of troops arrive @ Tuyun and are unpacking. They’ll be used against Neikiang.

@ Hami I have 1500 supply and just set supply_required to zero. I have 3 LCU @ Urumchi that are low on supplies. I’m curious to see if the supplies push up the trail to the units that are 7 hexes away.

& @ Kunming I have 10012 supply and dropped supply_required from 3427 down to 1427 to see if supplies push up to Tsuyung.

As for the those DMS, keep them in the region. The Allies get a butt load of aerial mines and they will dumping them everywhere. You will lose DMS's to attrition by hitting mines. Also, be aware that some of the small xAKLs can be converted to Amc's that can also sweep mines.

Good thought on the xAKLs - I'll have a look at them. Thanks!

Singapore
I cleared a lot of mines in this hex last turn. The mine symbol is now gone. The 6 DMS will stick around another turn – just to make sure. Airfield service/runway damage is now nil while port damage is @ 44. Oscar-Ic now fly CAP as I’ve got air support for the base now.

I see 4 enemy subs and a mine field in the Strait of Malacca.
- I have the DD Numakaze running ASW patrol from NE of Singkap to Bangkalis and then to Tandjoengbalai.

Borneo
Airborne assault of Sampit, Borneo ordered today from Singkawang with the 1st Raiding Regiment.

I’m sweeping Palembang and flying airfield attacks with fighter-escorted MB groups. I also moved an air group of Nick FB to Singkawang. I’ll set them on low alt naval attack next turn and see if I can poach enemy ships in the Palembang hex.

16th AA Regiment arrived @ Samarinda

Burma
TF 5_Big_Boyz is still refueling @ Miri.

Sweeps set for Port Blair

Shock attack @ Rangoon was strong. I destroyed two of his units. Another Shock should do it – they’ve gotta be out of supplies or close to it (plus heavy disruption and hopefully a good morale loss).

I-30 assigned to patrol in the Bay of Bengal. Has a FP so I’m hoping I’ll gather some intel along with improved hunting of enemy TFs.

China
Chinese units identified near Tsuyung:
30th Chinese Corps ID’d 4.28.42
59th Chinese Corps ID’d 4.28.42
76th Chinese Corps ID’d 4.28.42
85th Chinese Corps ID’d 4.28.42

I’ve been hitting this stack for a while but with little damage noted. I’ve sent in a pair of recon air groups to see if that improves my success rate with A2G missions.

From Last Turn:
Kunming 10012 dropped supply_required from 3427 down to 1427
Now 04554 with supply_required = 1427

From what I can see, nothing went up to Tsuyung…

Hami 1500 supply and just set supply_required to zero. I have 3 LCU @ Urumchi that are low on supplies. I’m curious to see if the supplies push up the trail to the units that are 7 hexes away.
- Now Hami shows 0 supplies but the 3 LCU are supplied just above the requirements. I’ve ordered a Shock attack as I see only 1 enemy LCU now. The current AV of the three LCU = 294.

I’m using the 1st Raiding Sentai air group to transport the Yokosuka Assault SNLF from Kweiyang to Haiphong. I plan to use this unit in a drop-attack in Sumatra later.

I bought out 4 transport air groups and moved them to Nagasaki. They’ll make their way to Malaya or Haiphong soon.

Boala
I’ve bought out a FF air group in Yokohama and I’m transporting it to Boala for air support. I’m also trying to build the airfield up. I should have had air support included with the initial assault wave…

So there was this fox - see.

And he wanted a hole - see.

I want to close Port Blair with a Naval Bombardment. Port Blair has mines.

What is the most effective method of clearing mines or avoiding them?

- Set my Bombardment range to the extreme and don't allow escorts to play?
- Add DMS to my Bombardment TF?
- Set a mine sweeper TF up and then have my Bombardment TF follow the sweepers?

Thoughts? In the past I just added sweepers and or PB to a Bombardment TF.

If there are CD guns embed with the bombardment TF and stand out to big gun range. If there are no CD guns send the minesweepers in first, set to remain if possible and then max range on the bombardment.

Ships @ TFs
I changed 4 To’su xAKL to AMc. They’ll take about 15 days to convert.

5_Big_Boyz are going to Singapore.

Mini-KB is now in the Ardaman Sea.

Nachi TF en route for Singapore

I had a patrol boat get spanked in the Java Sea by an old allied DD. I might make it to port but I don’t really have a warm-and-fuzzy.

2PB @ Saigon enroute to Singapore and will ASW patrol that hex.

2 more enemy bases fall
Sampit is captured by my para-unit.
Urumchi in China falls to my infantry/cavalry Shock Attack.

Singapore looks clear of enemy mines and all port damage is now removed also. The 6th Shipping Engineer Regiment is on the rails from Bangkok to Singapore.

Palembang will now receive sweeps from both Singkawang & Singapore. Still lining up additional MB for attacking the airfield.

Rangoon troops set to Shock Attack the abandoned allied amphibious assault forces left on the beach (I fat-fingered and had them set to D_Atk last turn).

Some of the troops packing for the train ride to Chiang Mai should be on the rails next turn. That route from Chaing Mai to Taung Gyi looks better than the roads I’ve been marching on in northern China. Hopefully supplies for these units will be less of a problem while they are on their road-march.

I spent about 30 minutes in pilot management. Point-and-click stuff. I dislike this part of the game.

I receive the Yamato in 28 days.

I’m pushing more air support to Northern China.

I think Steve is switching to a few night attacks from me sweeping his fighters. I can either try to fly fighters @ night or suck it up and try to take out his bases… I’ve never had much success with regular fighters on night CAP. Anyone out there have recommendations? His night missions look to be coming in @ 5k. I’d set for 9k and try to bounce. I mean – you can bounce @ night – right? Does this game take into effect moonlight and stuff like that?

I’ve got AA @ Rangoon & Singapore. 5 Mitchells did a nighty @ Singapore but my flack was silent…

Steve is Bombing Boela in the DEI and I've no fighter support so I'm sending TF74 from Japan to Boela with an air group of float fighters to provide CAP. I'm also expanding the airfield @ Boela - currently @ 08%

I set the I-3 to patrol from SW of Port Moresby through the Torres Strait to a point SW of Merauke. Home port is Truk.

I'm planning to add the CV Hiyo to Mini-KB. Right now I'm moving it to Nagasaki to add a BB to TF144(1CV 2CA 1CS 2DD). I added an air group of FF to the CS Mizuho to fly CAP. The Jake FP will fly ASW. I've also added DB & TB air groups to the Hiyo.

Air Ops @ Rangoon
– Night CAP
– Sweep Prome
– Day CAP
– Naval Search R10

Defend Pegu
The 9th Division & the 13th Indian Mixed Bde @ Rangoon are moving to Pegu. Forts are being built. 48th Road Construction Company @ Rangoon is also moving to Pegu

Mini-KB is near Moulmein.

Continue Sweep of Port Blair with 2 air groups of Zero. Also AF Attack with Zero escort.

Reduce range of my H6K4 as Steve's CAP @ Ramree is a pain in the buttocks.

TF114 with 16k supplies @ Kota Bharu en route for Singapore.

Transfer 36 Helen air group from Nagasaki to Takao. Moving to Singapore…
TF159 loading 38k supplies for Singapore

I'm moving 800+ AV of infantry from Tuyun to Kweiyang
221AV of infantry is packing @ Changsha for a strat-move to Tuyun
3 air support engineer units plus an AA unit @ Wuchang are moving to Changsha
900AV @ Sinyang are packing to strat-move to Wuchang.
900AV in the boonies moving to Kienko
285AV in the boonies moving to Kienko

I moved TR up to Wuchang and they are flying supplies 2 Kienko

I want to own out-right all of China. Steve has graciously moved most of his troops to Burma so there are just a few bases left for me to capture and only a few units left for me to kill in this theatre.

There's another 2,860 VP in China and then I can send better than 7,000 AV of troops into Burma and up into India.

@ Urumchi:
- Set 2nd Indian Mixed Bde (202AV) & 1st Cavalry Bde (42AV) to move to Wasu - (138 miles north).
- I've set the 4th Cavalry Bde (3AV) to rest as it needs time to regroup.
- I've set Wasu as the FO for all three units
- I've increased base supply requirements from 724 to 4,724
- I'm repairing Manpower, Resources, Oil, Refineries, and Light Industry

@ Kiuchuan, Central China I ordered the 13th Independent Infantry Regiment to march for Kashgar in NE China (966 miles). I've also set Kashgar as the FO.

Steve has broken away from the allied historical values and is carpet bombing Japanese held cities for manpower. Not resources or industry but manpower... Could the spanking he took at Rangoon maybe have rattled him? Or is he trying to play mind games with me? Oh well, once Japan has taken the map it'll be fun to prosecute Steve for war crimes… <grin>

The 11th Field Artillery Regiment near Tienshui is marching for Kienko (138 miles away)

The 36th Division (478AV) is SE of Kienko and moving towards that base (46 miles away). FO = Chungking

The 37th and 41st Divisions (480 & 443 AV) are NE of Sian and moving to Kienko (276 miles away). FO=Chungking

The 4th Indian Mixed Bde & the 23rd Tank Rgt (285AV) are NE of Sian and moving to Kienko (322 miles away). FO=Chungking

The following combat units @ Kienko (1,349AV) are moving to hex 77,43:
- 24th Division (458AV)
- 9th Indian Mixed Bde (210AV)
- 3rd Indian Mixed Bde (207V)
- 2nd Indian Mixed Regiment (125AV)
- 10th Tank Regiment (80AV)
- 11th Tank Regiment (79AV)
- 3rd Tank Regiment (57AV)
- 26th Engineer Regiment (48AV)
- 28th Engineer Regiment (48AV)
- 20th Recon Regiment (37AV)
- 3rd FF Construction Unit
- 5th Army HQ
- 1st Army HQ
- ** All have FO=Neikiang

The 58th Division (332AV) @ Kweiyang is moving to hex 75,46 (138 miles). FO=Neikiang

The 60th & 70th divisions along with the 102nd Infantry Regiment and the 58th Infantry Bde (900AV) are @ Tuyun and moving to Kweiyang (92 miles)

The 1st Indian Mixed & the 4th Bde (471AV) @ Changsha are packing for a strat-move to Tuyun. FO=Chungking

The 30th JAAF AF Bn (9AV x24 Air Support) @ Chengting is moving to Sian (414 miles)

Attack enemy airfield @ Chungking (Steve is flying 4E that are bombing cities)
- The 54th and 70th Sentai (59AC) @ Kweiyang have been assigned to sweep Chungking. I plan to sweep a few times to take down fighter CAP and then I'll divert fighters to escort bombers to take down his airfield.
- I've assigned the 83rd I.F. Chutai to Recon Chungking

Send supplies by air to Kienko
- The 3rd, 4th, 5th, & 6th Transportation Chutai @ Wuchang are flying supply transport to Kienko.

Send supplies to Tsuyung
- The 1st Transport Chutai @ Hanoi & the 2nd, 11th, 13th, & 14th Transport Chutai plus the 2nd Raiding Sentai @ Haiphong are flying supplies up to Tsuyung.

I've got the 1st& 4th Cavalry Brigades plus the 2nd Indian Mixed Brigade @ Urumchi (which I took last turn - see below). The 303rd Brigade was routed from Urumchi on 4.28.42 in a shock attack.

The 4th Cavalry took the brunt of the damage during the shock attack. The unit shows 1AV of strength with 34 Cav Squads, 4 AT guns gun crews, and 3 motorized support units disabled. This unit will stay @ Urumchi to regroup while the 1st Cavalry and the 2nd Indian Mixed Brigade follow the Chinese 303rd Brigade in hopes of catching it on the road as it retreats to Wasu.

I'm also increasing the base supply requirement @ Urumchi from 892 to 4,892 to help suck supplies up closer to the front lines, to help in repairs on the base infrastructure (Manpower, Resources, Oil, Refinery, & Lite Industry) and to help the 4th Cavalry as it regroups.

Ground combat at Urumchi (79,11)

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 8695 troops, 78 guns, 100 vehicles, Assault Value = 297

Defending force 1902 troops, 0 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 82

Japanese adjusted assault: 452

Allied adjusted defense: 29

Japanese assault odds: 15 to 1 (fort level 1)

Japanese forces CAPTURE Urumchi !!!

Combat modifiers
Defender: terrain(+), leaders(-), experience(-)
Attacker: shock(+), leaders(+), supply(-)

Japanese ground losses:
664 casualties reported
Squads: 8 destroyed, 59 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 6 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled

Allied ground losses:
879 casualties reported
Squads: 32 destroyed, 52 disabled
Non Combat: 14 destroyed, 7 disabled
Engineers: 7 destroyed, 0 disabled
Units retreated 1

Defeated Allied Units Retreating!

Assaulting units:
1st Cavalry Brigade
4th Cavalry Brigade
2nd Ind.Mixed Brigade

Defending units:
303rd Brigade

The 13th Independent Infantry Regiment is @ Kiuchuan and moving up to Kashgar (966 miles). Once operations are complete around Wasu I will route the 1st & 4th Cavalry Regiments plus the 2nd Indian Mixed Brigade.

Operation Back-door: The assault of Taung Gyi from the Thai road near Chiang Mai
- I've divided the 1st RTA Division into A/B/C with C Co staying @ Bangkok as a garrison unit and sending A & B companies to Chiang Mai as the kick-off location. A company has arrived and B is en route and at Uttaradit on this turn.
- The 12th division (449AV) from Singapore is on the rail to Chiang Mai and is currently east of Kuala Lumpur
- The 15th division (469AV) @ Singapore has just completed packing and will be on the rail next turn (5.2.42)

I had set the 7th Indian Tank Brigade to move to Bassein but had expected it to take the road that would have cut Bassein from resupply via Prome. Instead the 7th took a shortcut through Rangoon and across the river, which forced a shock attack. Although the unit disruption jumped up to 34 there was little damage to my tank brigade. This unit is on defense and I'm following after with the 5th and 6th Guards divisions (512 & 458AV)

I'm sending the 5th Amphibious Bde (153AV) & the 17th Independent Guards Regiment (135AV) to hex 55,51. I only see 1 enemy unit @ Prome (which might be just engineers since Steve is flying air groups from there). I'll recon the base. If intel shows light defense then I'll nail it and push him back.

I'm defending Pegu against a future push from enemy forces @ Toungoo. To that end I'm sending the 9th Division (449AV), the 13th Indian Mixed Bde (202AV), and the 48th Road Construction Company to defend Pegu and build up the base forts.

Steve has that stack of 23 next to Tsuyung. I'm moving 3 divisions from Tsuyung to hex 67,45 to cut supplies off from Paoshan.

Mini-KB moves near Moulmein.

TF144 has the CV Hiyo and is currently en route to Nagasaki to pick up a BB escort after which it will head towards Moulmein to join the Mini-KB.

Sub I-155 will patrol near Ceylon with Singapore set as his home port.

TF114 has 16k supplies and is en route for Singapore

I-168 fires a slew of fish @ an AKE near Canton Isle. All miss so he engages with his surface gun and scores a single hit. Later in the game one of Steve’s subs does something similar. It was really weird to see a bunch of torps fired and they all miss against a slow target. I confirmed all fish are gone so I’m sending it back for repair and more fish.

I lost a TK near Balikpapan.

I’ve got Port Blair shut down with 100% airfield damage. I see a BB and an AKE in port with the mouse-over. I can’t use torpedoes on a port attack with my Nell/Betty bombers. I score a few 250 kg hits.

A few Mavis discover an allied DD and AMC @ Oosthaven. I sink the AMC. Later in the afternoon I nab a xAP and a pair of xAK. No loss-of-troop message so I’m guessing troops are ashore. More for me to kill later. I'll see if I can nab a few more.

Steve is pounding Benkoelen (and has been for a few turns). I can’t get fighters over to that side of Sumatra yet…

@ Palembang a few D3A1 escorted by A6M2 sink an HDML.

@ Chengtu Steve bombards my troops. I’ve got another 1500AV en route. I need to take Chengtu & Chungking before I start wiping out Steve’s Chinese troops.

DD that were in the shop for refit are returning.

I went at Bataan again for a couple of days and dropped forts down to 1. I’m resting the troops for another couple of days to get the disruption/fatigue down and then I’ll have another go.

I’m getting ready to take Java. Naval support are almost to Babeldaob.

I’ve been sending a lot of troops/supplies out to my islands in the pacific to build up bases. I clocked a BB near Nikunau a few turns back. Steve whined about my “magic Mavis.” I sortied about 30 PA with torps and got six hits (all on the BB New Mexico). A PA carries 2 torps so I’m guessing 3 of my 30 PA scored a hit. Hey – the allies got B-17s that won’t go down when I field 10:1 A6M2 against them and to add salt to the wound those Flying Forts will shoot down about 10% of my CAP…

Zeros were hardly ever able to take down B-17's historically & were very much surprised by the heavy armament they carried....I don't consider that an issue.

I didn't ask if you consider this an issue. I'm not playing a historic game. I'm not playing a simulation either. I'm not even pitching a fit - I'm just saying that the allies have B-17 and lotsa other strong 4E AC I have to contend with. Japan has other options to whittle the allied heavy bombers. Everything has a cost.

I'll be using my Patrol Aircraft every chance I get.

The destroyer mine sweepers DMS Uruko & Teiko I sent to Sabang are sweeping the hex clear. They clear 60 mines.

A 3PB ASWTF near Toboali runs into a single ACM (I’m guessing a picket). My TF is on ASW and the ACM actively “attempts to evade combat.”

I catch Steve’s bombers on the ground @ Palembang. I’m guessing they are grounded as the hex shows heavy rain. Apparently no CAP either as my A6M2 sweeps turn up nothing. Also, a lot of AC damaged on the ground… He may have Palembang over-stacked… SBC-4 are at the base… Where did these come from? Things that make me go hmmmm. Maybe Steve has a carrier TF west of Sumatra and he un-assed his dive bombers?

I tap into some more of Steve’s BB @ Port Blair. All I have to throw @ her are the 250kg bombs. Paint burns if you get the steel hot enough. Results show it has heavy damage tho so I’m guessing it took a plastering earlier in the game when I had carrier operations going on. After the attack I no longer see the anchor symbol @ Port Blair. Maybe Steve has put in orders for a haul-ass mission to the Royal Sovereign? I’ll put more AC on Naval Search next turn as I feel sure I did not sink it.

My sweeps are keeping both Palembang and Port Blair clear. Well – Port Blair showed the airfield as 100% damaged two turns back. Works for me tho – no CAP makes it easier to shut down those airfields.

I lost some G4M1 near Soerabaja as they went after enemy ships w/o escorts. This is my bad as I should have cut back the range to keep them from that port as there were no fighters available as escort for this bomber group. What I found interesting though is that Steve has a fighter CAP over this base… I also note the Marblehead here… I hate the Marblehead almost as much as the Boise.

What's the best altitude for fighter-bombers to attack an airfield? Will they dive-bomb if I set them to 14k altitude?

Mine Sweeping @ Sabang complete after removing another 60+ mines

Some maneuvering of TFs in the Java Sea. SS Sturgeon finds my ACTF but gets pounded for sticking her nose in too close.

Night turns to day and an allied SCTF finds Akagi’s ACTF. My side goes bang-bang, Steve’s side goes bang-bang, and they do that for a while. The stinking Marblehead gets away with a few lite hits.

Task forces break off...

Later near Pamekasan an air group of Beasties escorted by 12 Hawks has a go @ the Akagi but my CAP makes short work of them. And then a flight of 12 B-17E fly a lo-level naval attack with 500 lb. eggs. They miss too. I think the 4E came from Palembang… Then come a pair of Banshee with 1000 lb. SAP. Those miss also.

Over by Wake the mighty RO-65 goes to surface action against the xAKL Kanlaon II. 1 shell hit and then the RO-65 breaks away do to low ammo.

My SCTF that hit Oosthaven goes through Merak and sinks a pair of AMC

Near Banjoewangi my AmphibTF finds a lone AMC. Both TFs avoid a conflict.

At Palembang I sweep and pound the base again. It shows 54% damage to the airfield. Mouse shows another 17 bombers still sitting there. I flew my FB over for an airfield attack @ 14k but they did next to nothing. I’ll try 6k next turn.

Near Rahaeng and near Chungking we dance litely, trading a little bit of this for that.

SB2U-3 aircraft from Canton (I think) attack my SCTF sitting @ Baker Isle. LRCAP from my nearby ACTF fend them off. I shoot down a pair. A single B-26 makes a go of it here also but it comes up short.

Steve goes after Dili airfield again. I don’t have anything there so I watch while he makes holes in the runway. Better he use them there then @ Soerabaja against my shipping.

I lose most of Akagi’s DB air group to CAP @ Soerabaja. They go after the CL Perth and wind up feeding the fish.

6.18.42 Movie
• Steve, the cheeky bastard, slipped mines into the port of Balikpapan. Fortunately I have a few AMc in port to remove them.

• The BB Hyuga SCTF out by Baker Isle gives the ground forces there a bit of a pounding and then heads for home port. I see the 1st and 3rd Marine Raider Battalions there. Those aren't para-units, are they?

• Steve sent a CA-led SCTF into Banjoewangi. I had broken off the CA Maya and three DD as a separate task force and placed them on patrol of the Banjoewangi hex. Steve's SCTF slipped past the Maya and rousted my amphibious TF. The Akagi ACTF is set to follow the amphibious TF. They are now back in the Java Sea… On the way out into the Java Sea the Akagi ACTF tangles with Steve's SCTF lead by the CA Australia. Bang-bang, bang-bang. I do him hard - he does my lite (I think due to low ammo on his part). The CL Marblehead gets a lite scratch, the CL Perth gets away with no pain, and the CA Australia & the APD Barker get spanked to the tune of heavy fires & damage.

• Throughout the movie there is sporadic sub/ASW combat. Steve taps into a PB near Langsa.

• I sweep Chungking, Palembang, Port Blair, & Soerabaja. Soerabaja is a stone-cold beeech. I broke through the CAP @ Soerabaja with Oscar-Ic.

• I pound Palembang some more. Steve is still flying air groups out of there set for Naval Attacks. There were two or three air groups that flew from Palembang but they wasted themselves on a small DD ASWTF I had near Singapore. It almost takes an act of god to bomb a DD, and today god was apparently disinclined to take part in that action.

• You gotta love FoW. I've killed or damaged about 250 AC @ Palembang over the last few days.

• I continue my ritualistic bombing of Bataan in the PI, Steve's Big-Stack near Tsuyung, and the 3 Chinese Corps units near Rahaeng. There's something powerful in regards to rituals.

• Steve tries his hand at some ritualistic bombing in China. Fortunately I have enough CAP at his targets to at least make the bombers miss.

• I have managed to move some of my Mavis into the theatre. They try for a pair of mine layers @ Palembang with expected results of nil. Later in the turn they find the burning hulls of the CA Australia & APD Baker and convert them into good allied ships. An air group of 25 Kates attacks the Marblehead & Perth loaded with bombs and has no success. I would note that the CL Marblehead is still pretty much untouched and within the area of Soerabaja… Have I mentioned how good I'd feel to sink that blighted ship? Just checking…

• Over by Roti a few B5N1 Kates sink the xAKL Lepus. Over by Mataram a few D3A1 sink the AMc Djember. These attacks come from ACTF Kaga that's slipping past Bima to come up the western side of Java.

• Banjoewangi falls to the 5th Division.

• I assault Chengtu and get 1:1 odds but forts are still @ level 2. I'm thinking I need to do another D_ATK to drop the forts a notch or two down B4 I can try a Shock attack.

Mike-

I have played board-hex war games, but I am new to Matrix games.

I have been reading your and Steve's posts regarding the war!

Both of you write well, make it interesting and fun.

Thank you for all your time and work to give us such good fun following your battle with that pesky Bullwinkle!

*laughing*

I'm glad you are enjoying the read, Terry.

I think I've got Steve (Bullwinkle) surrounded and I'm about to put on the squeeze.

Supplies @ my big-stack are almost at 2X... And as soon as I can resupply @ Chungtu I should be good for another D_ATK to take the forts down to 1 or 0. I'd like to route Steve's big-stack but not destroy it else those troops re-appear @ Chungking (which would suck).

2 Divisions plus support are in the first wave for Java.

I think catching Steve's 4E on the ground @ Palembang was a stroke of luck and I'm gunna make the most of it.

Cheers!

Mike-

I'm laughing hard.

I am reading both your and Steve's threads on the slugfest.

I'm only at page 24 with that pesky Bullwinkle's thread. Farther back with you (only read the first two pages so far).

Accordingly, you're way ahead of me on your most recent operations.

I am trying to catch up.

I don't want to say anything regarding the war...the strategy...and tactics as I don't want to make a big goof and give anything away to either of you.

I can say this: It is great fun reading what each of you do and say. And, I'm learning lots.

Nice meting you, Mike.

Sorry - I'm jumping through some hoops @ work plus had a self-inflicted problem with my login account. The account problem has been resolved. I've another crazy day today and 2morrow and then will be on vacation until the 2nd week in August. I will be staying in the area for most of that vacation time so hopefully Steve and I can bag a few extra turns.

Notes from 6.23.42:

The Battle of Bataan was just finished and I’m working to rebuild\repair the units after the extended combat. To that end I have Bataan, Clark, and Manila supplied well over the 2X supplies required for allowing units to recover\replace multiple squads if they are available. On the 22nd of June the stack of LCU @ Bataan had an Assault Value of 1,445 and on the 23rd the Assault Value for the stack is 1,467.

The 14th Army currently has the 48th Division and 65th Brigade as its two largest infantry units. I do have the ability to form the 16th Division from units within the 14th Army. To do that I need to:
1. Send the Miura Detachment currently @ Davao to Manila to for the 33rd Regiment.
2. Send the newly formed 33rd Regiment to Bataan to join the remaining units required to form the 16th Division.

Almost all of my units in the PI are from the 14th Army. What I’ll be doing is moving smaller units of the Southeastern Army to cover garrison requirements plus assault and clear those 12 bases in the PI that still fly the US flag.

I’ve formed MSTF129(1DMS) from Takao, Formosa with orders to remove the mines @ Bataan. I’ve set the reaction level to 0 and have selected a commander with good naval skills and low aggression. My desire is to form a cautious Mine Sweeping Task Force with a high chance for survival. MSTF129 should arrive @ Bataan by the end of turn 6.23.42.

2-Do List:
1. Rebuild LCU @ Bataan to full strength and create the 16th Division. Set FO=Palembang.

2. Send a Transport TF of 5 Aden Cargo Class xAK plus escort from Babeldaob to Davao to transport the Miura Detachment to Manila.

3. Send the 65th Bde @ Balikpapan to Butuan, Mindanao for an assault of Cagayan, Mindanao. There are plenty of ships @ Balikpapan to perform the transport operation.

4. Send the 8th Engineer Regiment currently attached to the SA and located @ Shanghai to Butuan, Mindanao.

5. @ Mindanao I need to move the 82nd Naval Guard unit & the III/4th Infantry Battalion from Malaybalay, to Davao. The 82nd can serve garrison detail for now while the III/4th INF Bn. Will be used later to form the 4th Infantry Regiment @ Singkawang.

6. Transfer 1st Raiding Regiment @ Sampit & the 2nd Raiding Regiment @ Ambon to Legaspi.

7. Move 70 aviation points of support to Legaspi.

8. Move 6 Transport air groups to Legaspi.
