I am playing computer to reaquaint. Recently in invading Kwajalein I foolishly tried to transfer several ships who were low on fuel out of a larger TF. Kwaj wasn't yet captured. Well....the transfered ships disappeared into thin air. 2 turns later BB Alabama shows up as in Truk!! Worse yet she shows as being damaged by my B24s in general raids. If I check the TF list it says she is in a non-existant TF#.

What happened?...the Japenese capture her??!! Any way to correct this before I sink my own ship??

The best thing is to post a save game here from just before when this happened so they see if there is a bug they can fix.

What version are you using (upper left hand corner of the game's window)?

Thanks for the response. I regret that I was too lazy to save each individual turn and didn't catch issue until it was overwritten. Maybe there is another way to access thru the autosave if it archives??

The version I am using is 1.00179-July 20'09. Supposedly this was the most current version as at early 2012.

See, this is what happens when the developers fail to model the ship's Marine contingents! I demand an update!

Though it is worth noting that USS Stewart (DD224) was damaged and abandoned in March 1942 but later salvaged and used by the IJN...

I am now attempting to have the Japenese repair her from my bombing.

On the other hand maybe I should make an HMS Cambelltown outa her!!

The latest is 1.0.6.1108r9 (and is well worth the download for all the extra's)

Have a look in your save folder and then autosave folder for the files. Zip and upload to this thread. MichaelM might want a quick look. This is not a usual bug as I've never heard of it before.

179 is the original release.
There has been so many fixes done to things showing up in wrong locations up to even the latest official release.

0148 & micheal....thanks for response. I'm no computer wiz but will try negotiating thru what you recommended. Supposedly I had downloaded the freshest version before starting but evidently not! I'm led to believe that if I download now it won't work on the existing game????

Just for your interest...this gets better...BB Alabama now in a Jap TF on sortie out of Truk. SBDs from Kavieng just attacked her!!

I recall threads about this happening from the very first weeks after the stock game shipped. They went away after the first patch and have never to my knowledge resurfaced. No matter how deep you are into your game it's worth re-starting with the current patch. There are hundreds and hundreds of changes and improvements, both to execution code and the data base. Overwhelminghly different, better experience.

Bullwinkle...thanks, I agree...but, I have read somewhere on here that if I download the new stuff it won't attach onto a pre-existing game. Do you know?

Most of changes from last patch will work in old games.
There is few fixes that will work only with new game but they are in minority.

Most/all(?) of the changes to the EXE file will take. What you're getting in the patch is, I believe, just a whole new EXE file. If the pwhex file changes (this is the map) the save game launcher will sense that the old and new disagree and ask you if you want to swap in the new. You click 'y' once and it does it. Where you will not get many of the updates is in the device database and in the unit OOB. Some of these changes take, but many are baked into the game when the first turn is generated.

If this were a case of replacing one of the beta patches with the final patch I'd say play on. Many PBEM players are playing with old, in some cases quite old, verisons. But the stock game as shipped was a mess in places. Just d/l the last patch and read the update notes back to the very first patch. It's many pages long. It's your game and your time investment, but if it were me I'd patch it up snuff and start a new game with all I learned from the current one.

One option you could also try is to reinstall a new instance of the game in a differnet folder, patch it up to date, and play ten turns or so and see if you like the update enough to dump your current game. In pilot management alone you'll save scores of hours fiddling over the course of a grand campaign.

After the update ....within 2 turns...BB Alabama ended up being air lifted magically back to San Fran. Now I must repair the bomb damage my planes made. As I posted in the "update thread" the update is amazing!! For the other newbies make sure you double check that you actually do have the newest update...I thought I had!!
