I was just browsing around looking for newly released computer games and stumbled upon AGEOD's Alea Jacta Est. It looks like an interesting enough game and is very reasonably priced ($19.99), but I noticed something very odd about it. It comes in three different "levels" of purchase - basic ($19.99), some term basically meaning "intermediate" ($100.00) and another term pretty much meaning "advanced" ($250.00). You do get a bit of something for the extra buck - a free add on to the game that is going to be released in a couple of years. But some of the extras sound like they are straight out of a college annual fund campaign - your name listed in the credits, little honorary icons under your username in the game's forum, and a generic leader in the game will be named after you. I'm not sure what's more pitiful, that the game company would resort to such tactics to bring in extra cash, or the pitiful souls that actually buy these "accessory" versions of the game.
