AC production

What does a blue aircraft factory mean? Lack of engines?
I have 2 factories (H8K, KI45) that will not produce.

Forgot to mention ..Rufe is affected also. Pretty sure it is lack of engines.

According to MichealM tm.asp?m=2924459&mpage=1&key=blue&#2926264
Blue for R&D.
Note that there are 2 'blues'.
The bluer blue is when a R&D can be changed to either another R&D or production.
The lighter blue (which is a grey) is for type in actual R&D.

Blue on the commodity use/require side indicates commodity being stockpiled.
[Using commodity now to refer to resource, oil, fuel, supply as normal use of the word 'resource' tends to confuse some.]

Blue for R&D

I read that. These are not R&D factories. Still mystified,
there are enough engines in the pool(19) for a couple of
H8K's to be built. I expanded the H8K factory from 1 a month to 15.
Will run a couple of turns to see what happens.

A follow-up in case anyone else has blue AC factories. I got them to change
to yellow & start producing again. Did not really need the RUFE in
production anyway, so i switched it to H8K1, Both H8K1 factories
then turned yellow & started to produce. Same thing with the NICK,
changed an obsolete PETE factory to Nick, both NICK factories changed
to yellow. I can only assume that the program got "stuck" & needed
a kick-start to get working.

BTW: It's a big change in air combat to go from Oscars to Tojos.
The Tojos swat P39's & hurricanes out of the air like flies.
(even with good pilots).

Thanks for info. So can you give me any quick advice on what to change starting t2 on campaign? I'm not the type that likes to micro everything, but it sounds like you know some common sense factory changes I should do starting a campaign as Japan as a minimum. Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.

Change the following engine lines to something you really need:-

Hitachi (early):- Only used for Ida and Theresa, and you certainly don't want any more of these pieces of junk.
Kawasaki(early):- Only used for Mary.... ditto above.
Nakajima Hikari:- Can't remember if this has already been shut off at the start, if not, shut it down or change.
Nakajima Kotobuki:- Shut this down immediately and change it to Nakajima Ha-35, of which you will require alot!!

Tailor your engine builds to your aircraft factories.
Remember to factor in requirements for 2 & 4 Engine aircraft designs, and increase your build accordingly.

Early on the Nakajima Ha-35 is your most important engine to get right, as its this engine that goes in the Zero and Oscars, two planes you want by the shedful, as well as a host of other useful designs.

Good Luck!!

Wow, thanks for quick response. This is good stuff for me. Just curious, but what should I use for ASW as far as planes are concerned? I know as the Japanese player the ASW war is going to be very tough on me throughout the campiagn. So the better prepared I can be might make it a bit less painful. [:(]

Thanks Again

Betty's and Nell's are ok to start with as their range is adequate, but you also need them for Naval attack.
A balancing act is required.

Remember to train pilots in ASW in Japan and Manchuria.

The original Nell you start the game with is valuable later on as it can be equipped with MAD ( radar ) in 1944, but at the start, thats along way off[:D]

can you give me any quick advice

Would like to help, but as far as the Japanese side is concerned,
i am a noob. I'm sure others can give better advice than i could.

OT:Does anybody bother to produce the Recon version of the Judy?
I don't see any real need for a carrier based recon plane,
considering all the float plane assets the IJN has.
The recon Judy does not even have a camera.
