Maybe it is my computer, only 2gig ram and dual core 2ghz but I'm finding this annoying. I think it is all space monsters but I have noticed it repeatedly with space slugs. It does not happen all the time but frequently enough to be annoying.

'I tawt I thaw a space slug' (actually I know I did because slightly earlier I gave an attack order and I'm way out of range with my baby maxos fleet)

'I did, I did tee a space slug'

The only way (except not leaving the combat, but I've got other concerns in my empire ) to know if the monster is there or exterminated is to look for the flames of my drives. Lucky I don't queue orders...

I am not sure if it is sensor ranges, or what, but it appears that wildlife enjoys hiding. It could very well be by design.

I am more worried about my fleet fighting invisible Silvermist, but that is a different matter than your slugs, I think.

Space slugs hide themselves in tunnels they bore into the rocky asteroids or planets they inhabit. They occasionally venture out,

there hiding and watching , find the tracks.

That made my day! I will always remember fondly that scene! My little brother almost sh*t himself when he came out. Time to pull out the DVD.

The empire strikes back... that's baseball, right?

Bingeling, it is not sensor range.  For example, if you have a ship/base in a system with monsters they will never disappear outside of combat.

Pipewrench, would that it were so.  The ships would then not know where the slugs are, but they do.  It is only the player who has them not appearing.  This is why I think it is a graphics issue rather than a game mechanics twist I have not seen before.
