I´m usuing 2 BBs/CLs with 6 DDs per your suggestion. Or simply 8 Fletchers on their own! Have yet to face anything bigger then a CL though!

August 21, 22, 23 :
The two week lull due to college/university classwork for Nick is over and we are back to a turn daily (hopefully more soon).

Key: TT = Torpedo; bb = ground bombardment; c = casualties; b = base hits; s = supply hits; r = runway hits; p = port hits; AV = Assault Value; DC = Depth Charged; (*) = destroyed aircraft;

Subs:
quote:

Sub attack near Baker Island at 158,129

CL Hobart
CLAA San Juan
DD McCalla
DD Hull
DD Dewey
DD Tucker

SS I-28 launches 6 torpedoes at CA Quincy

Nick had stated that I-28 had a good day and I was worried that another CV had been hit or worse one of the two damaged CVs had taken another TT hit or more. Finding out it was 'just' a CA was a relief.

I-28 gets under Force Z and is hit once by my DDs

S-35 is off Jaluit and gets 7 shell hits on an xAK

CVs: Mine are headed back to Pearl for short term repairs.

India/Burma:

China: -
The daily ground bb attacks continue at 85, 43 (2 hexes due west of Loyang on trail)

Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled

Assaulting units:
16th Recon Regiment

Defending units:
2/2nd Ind Coy

South Pacific:

Central Pacific: Unloading at bases in Gilberts continues without interruption.
Tarawa - AF 2
Abemama - AF 2
Tabiteuea - Port 1
Ocean Island and Makin are both EMPTY via F-4 recon flights.

Notes:
With both Ocean Island and Makin being empty, LCU prepping are changed for these bases and the rest of the Marshalls has forces assigned and begin prepping. The build up continues in Gilberts without any sign of Japanese forces, except the pesky subs. This area will be the focus of Allied efforts for the rest of '42.

August 27 thru 31 :
The lull/yawnfest continues....

Key: TT = Torpedo; bb = ground bombardment; c = casualties; b = base hits; s = supply hits; r = runway hits; p = port hits; AV = Assault Value; DC = Depth Charged; (*) = destroyed aircraft;

Subs:
Amchitka Island has S-27 sink an xAK with 1 TT hit

CVs:
CV Lexington needs 64 days to repair and Yorktown needs 51 days. CA Quincy needs 48 days. Each of these is the result of just one TT hit by his I-boats.

India/Burma:

China:
The daily ground bb attacks continue at 85, 43 (2 hexes due west of Loyang on trail) for 27th; 28th; they stop on 29th;

Yenan - Up to 27 Sally hit the AF daily

Sian -
31st - 30 Oscars with 9 Sally = 3b, 2s, 5r;

Australia:
Sydney -
27th - Night attacks by 15 Sally & 15 Helen = 00; 8 Helen & 12(1) Sally = 00; 7(1) more Helen = 00;
28th - More night attacks with 15 Helen; 27(1) Helen; 8 Sally; 4 Sally; 5(1) Sally;

Melbourne -
27th - Night attacks by 34(4) Helen = 00; 7 Helen = 00;
28th - Another series of night attacks by 18(1) Helen; 7 Helen; 6 Helen; 7(1) Helen; 8 Helen;

Adelaide -
28th - 42 Tojo sweep; 36 Oscars escort in 5 Sally & 40(1) Helen = Light Industry hits 4; 18(1) Sally = Light Industry hits 2; 42 Tojo sweep the still empty skies;
29th - 42 and then another 42 Tojo sweep the empty skies; 36 Oscars with 18(1) Sally & 36 Helen = Light Industry hits 2;
31st - 42 Tojo sweep; 36 Oscars with 44(2) Sally & 25(1) Helen = Manpower hits 60 & Fires 16940; 10(1) Helen = Manpower hits 14 & Fires 9620

Roto-
30th - 42 Tojo sweep three times;
31st - 42 Tojo sweep three times;

South Pacific:
Noumea -
28th - 6 Zero are on CAP as 76 B-17s hit the AF = 7b, 1s, 12r; 3 Zero still left on CAP vs 21(1) B-17s = 2r; A solo Zero is left on CAP vs 9 B-17s = 1s, 4r;
29th - Only 4 Zero are on CAP vs 67 B-17s = 4b, 19r; 3(1) Zero vs 14 B-17s = 3b, 2r; 1 Zero vs 6 B-17s = 1r;
31st - 3 Zero vs 76 B-17s = 2b, 3r;

Nadi - Transports unload support troops, so the B-17s are trying to keep the Zeros head down at Noumea.

Central Pacific:
Tarawa - Forts 2; AF 3;
Abemama -
Nonouti - Forts 2;
Tabiteuea - Forts 2;

Ocean, Nauru, and Makin are ALL empty!!

Notes:
Night attacks on Sydney and Melbourne for two days don't get any hits at 6k, but he losses over 10 planes per day to flak and op losses. I have some new Aussie air groups training up.

P-40s - The "K" model start in 9/42 at 65 per month while the "E" model still puts out 35 for one more month. The "K" will go to India while the "E will be used up in Australia. More of a hit and run CAP vs his Tojo sweeps.

F-4s - I only get 4 per month, but it will allow me to divide the two groups up (Australia and Gilberts) to cover more bases.

4e bomber deployment - 2x 48 plane BG at Suva with B-17E; 1x 48 plane BG B-17F at Pearl (it will take the rest of 9/42 to fill out); 1x 48 plane BG of B-24D each at Pearl and San Fran (both need to fill out and train up); 2x 12 plane BS at Calcutta with B-17D. One 48 plane BG each of B-24s and B-17s to head for Gilberts once they train up more and the AFs get to size 5 or 6.

Medium bombers - a steady stream of 20 B-25C Mitchells are filling out some 12 and/or 16 plane BS that are training in NZ. Along with the older B-16 and B-26s, they will see action in Gilberts soon.

With my damaged CVs and the 9/42 upgrades pending, there will not be much counterattacking until they are done along with the major CV upgrades in 10/42 that will see the 1.1in AA guns replaced with the 40mm Bofors (range goes from 4k to 6k). The 37th Division is 100% prepped for Adak Island and is at Prince Rupert. I will probably land before winter sets in in 11/42 and bomb Amchitka over the winter while the base expands.

Pearl - now has over 2 million in supply and my CS Convoy of fuel will bring it almost to 1 million in the next few days.

7th - 42 Tojo sweeps;

South Pacific:

Central Pacific:

Notes:
Turns flow back and forth quickly over the last few days. The game is boring right now as Nick awaits my actions vs him doing anything offensive. Thus, a boring AAR for a few more weeks.

Aleutian Islands - I have decided to use my PP for the next few weeks to buy out the Canadians prepping for the bases (three) that Japan owns vs in India. I form a Support TF with a 3k capacity ARD to head from San Fran to Kodiak along with AKE, ACM, YMS, and AMc. I want to take Adak and build it up to base an AS and multiple subs to start the blockade of Japan.

Sept 12 thru 17 :
Not much to report. Lots of ships, mainly transports are going through or have gone through their 9/42 upgrade.

Key: TT = Torpedo; bb = ground bombardment; c = casualties; b = base hits; s = supply hits; r = runway hits; p = port hits; AV = Assault Value; DC = Depth Charged; (*) = destroyed aircraft;

Subs:
I-23 is a Glen equipped I-boat that is off Pearl keeping track of the fleet. Three ASW TFs are chasing it.
S-18 is at Amchitka and sinks a small xAKL with 2 TT hits.

CVs:
Repairing at Pearl - CV Lexington down to 47 days and CV Yorktown down to 15 days to complete repairs. Pearl now has only 24 ships repairing.

India/Burma:
- 3x air groups with 25 planes each of P-40Es are in the process of upgrading to P-40Ks.

China:
Yenan - Up to 25 Sally hit the AF daily

Sian -
12th - 42 Oscars escort in 9 Sally, 20 Lily, 5 Sonia = 10b, 3s, 54r;
17th - 42 Oscars with 33 Sally, 5 Lily, 12 Sonia = 21b, 13s, 61r; 3 Sally & 20 Lily = 7b, 19r; 17 Sally = 2s, 5r; Base = 0-37-0

Australia:
Adelaide -
17th - two sweeps by 42 Tojo each is followed by 36 Oscar escorting in 53(2) Helen = 25b, 7s, 31r; 23(1) Helen = 5b, 2s, 13r; Base = 0-35-63

South Pacific:
- Aukland fuel now up to 660k.

Central Pacific:
Abemama - AF 3
Tabiteuea - Port 3
Nonouti - AF 4
Tarawa - AF 4

Notes:
Ocean Island invasion TF starts loading at Pearl. 4 American CVs plus CV Illustrious will follow.

Four air groups of 12 B-24s each finish filling out at Pearl. They will move to Tabiteuea in a few days. One air group of 25 planes moved down to Suva to upgrade to P-38s. Need the range for my bombers.

Sept 18, 19, 20, 21 :
Nick has started hit and run AF attacks in China.
First heavy bomber attacks into Marshalls begin.

Key: TT = Torpedo; bb = ground bombardment; c = casualties; b = base hits; s = supply hits; r = runway hits; p = port hits; AV = Assault Value; DC = Depth Charged; (*) = destroyed aircraft;

Subs:
KXIV is off Carnarvon and sinks an xAK with 2 TT hits.
S-28 is at Adak and hits an xAKL with single TT, but doesn't hear any sinking sounds.

CVs:
3 American CVs & 2 Brit (CV and CVL Hermes) follow invasion TF for Ocean Island. Wasp is left behind for future ops in Aleutians with quickly repairing CV Yorktown.

India/Burma:
P-40Ks at Ledo 'may' soon be sent to China as soon as they fill out.

China:
Yenan - Up to 30 Sally hit the AF daily

Changteh -
18th - 30 Oscars escort in 12 Sally & 5 Lily = 3b, 7s, 21r; 20 Lily = 2b, 2s, 17r; 12 Oscars with 21 Sally = 4b, 2s, 14r;

Hengyang -
18th - 20 Sally = 2b, 3s, 19r;

Kukong -
19th - 12 Oscras with 25 Sally = 5b, 5s, 20r; 10 Oscars with 18 Sally = 1b, 1s, 11r;

Siangtan -
20th - 27 Oscars with 12 Sally & 5 Lily = 8b, 8s, 27r; 8 Oscar with 20 Lily = 6b, 4s, 28r;
21st - 23 Oscars with 12 Sally & 5 Lily = 1b, 14r; 20 Lily = 8b, 2s, 6r;

Wuchow -
20th - 12 Oscars with 24 Sally = 6b, 4s, 32r;
21st - 12 Oscars with 21 Sally = 7b, 6s, 35r;

Sian -
20th - 7 Oscar with 12 Sonia = 5b, 5s, 27r;

Ichang -
20th - 12 Oscars with 15 Sally = 2b, 2s, 24r;
21st - 12 Oscars with 21 Sally = 7b, 14r;

Australia:
Adelaide -
19th - 42 Tojo sweep; 36 Oscar escort 80 Helen = Manpower hits 21 & Fires 5610; 42 Tojo sweep;
21st - Three separate groups of 42 Tojo sweep; 16 Oscar with 26(1) Helen = Manpower hits 31 & Fires 7523; 28 Helen = Manpower hits 18 & Fires 14837;

South Pacific:

Central Pacific: - I still need the AF to max out to get bomb loads at normal values.
Tarawa - 25 P-38s move in
Abemama - 48 B-17Es move in
Nonouti - 32 B-25Cs move in
Tabiteuea - 48 B-24s move in

Maloelap -
21st - 22 P-38F sweep; 18 B-24D = 5b, 1s, 33r; 6(1) B-24s encounter 18 Rufes on training mission = 1r; 6 B-24s vs 2(1) Rufe = 1b, 2r; 9 B-24s = 2b, 5s, 7r;

Notes:
CVs going to Gilberts to support multiple invasions. They will stay close to bases and supply LRCAP over Amphib TFs while they unloaded only. Recon by F-4s in Marshalls show only fighters, but I don't want a quick influx of Nell/Betty to find easy targets.

Sept 22, 23, 24 :
Same as the last entry.

Key: TT = Torpedo; bb = ground bombardment; c = casualties; b = base hits; s = supply hits; r = runway hits; p = port hits; AV = Assault Value; DC = Depth Charged; (*) = destroyed aircraft;

Subs:
I-174 misses twice and then I-169 misses a small xAKL based TF with supplies and 5 air groups (2 fighter, 2 DB, 1 F4F recon) with too short a transfer range to make it from Christmas Island to Tabiteuea via either Canton or Baker Island. There was a third I-boat to the SE of Tabiteuea that was seen during Combat Replay.
Plunger is SE of Horn Island and the "dud" TTs do their thing as a big fat AO gets by without a TT exploding against its hull.

CVs:
CV Lexington down to 24 days while CV Yorktown is down to 5 days worth of repairs.

India/Burma:

China: Counter measures of flying in fighters to some bases is a no go due to no RR and/or supply is so bad that damaged planes could be stuck like the 3 fighters still in Sian.

Yenan - Up to 26 Sally hit the AF daily

Changteh -
22nd - 30 Oscars with 12 Sally & 5 Lily = 5b, 5s, 14r; 20 Lily = 3b, 4s, 16r;
23rd - 12 Oscars with 21 Sally = 7b, 3s, 34r;

Changsha -
22nd - 12 Oscars with 21 Sally = 6b, 7s, 34r;

Shaoyang -
23rd - 12 Oscars with 21 Sally = 3b, 2s, 22r;

Tuyun -
23rd - 12 Oscars with 26 Sally = 2b, 2s, 8r;

Sian -
22nd - 12 Sonia = 7b, 5s, 26r;
23rd - 30 Oscars escort in 12 Sally, 5 Lily, 12 Sonia = 8b, 8s, 42r; 20 Lily = 9b, 2s, 20r;
24th - 30 Oscars with 9 Sally & 20 Lily = 14b, 4s, 41r;

Ichang -
24th - 9 Sonia = 1s, 2r; x 9

Wuchow -
24th - 12 Oscars with 21 Sally = 3s, 11r;

Australia:

South Pacific:

Central Pacific: -

Maloelap -
23rd - weather improved to allow 22 P-38s to sweep; 26 B-17s & 6 B-24s = 2s, 9r; 9 Rufes are training when 6 B-17s & 3 B-24s hit AF = 2r, 8 B-24s = 2b, 1r; 8 B-24s = 1b; 3(1) A6M2-N Rufe vs 8 B-24s = 2r;
24th - 31 B-17s & 16 B-24s = 11b, 6s, 26r; 16 B-24s = 3b, 3s, 7r; 7 B-24s = 6r;

Mili -
22nd - 30 B-25s hit Mili Naval Fortress = 96c;
23rd - 30 B-25s hit troops = 34c;
24th - 30 B-25s hit troops = 111c;

Notes:
Nick asked me about "Airbase Supply Hits" and how to figure out how much supply is destroyed. I send him this:

quote:

Nick,

I have found what you were looking for here. The answer is not that clear cut as what you probably want.

http://www.matrixgames.com/Forums/tm.asp?m=2619561&mpage=1&key=

Now, for an IMPORTANT web address to Bookmark.

https://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Amatrixgames.com+%2B%22War+in+the+Pacific%3A+Admiral's+Edition%22+mines

I've had this for years and it goes back more than one year that the Matrix search engine allows you. At the very end is "mines" and you replace it with the words you want to search with the "+" in between the words as I think you already know, but I added just in case (airbase+supply+hits).

ENJOY!!
Michael

Sept 25, 26, 27 :
Got in another three turn day yesterday. Sept is going by fast!
Air battles heat up in Marhsalls, with plans to do same in China.

Key: TT = Torpedo; bb = ground bombardment; c = casualties; b = base hits; s = supply hits; r = runway hits; p = port hits; AV = Assault Value; DC = Depth Charged; (*) = destroyed aircraft;

Subs:
I-23 is snooping off Pearl and my ASW efforts (Air and Naval) are not going well.
Plunger finally gets a TT to explode when they hit the hull of a TK off Horn Island.
Swordfish hits a troop loaded xAK off Koumac in two different phases to finally sink her.
I-21 is to the SW of Pearl and cannot hit the Transport TF with the damaged CL Danae headed back to port. The 3 DD ASW TF is unable to hit her when she reacts to her presences.

CVs:
3 CVs with 2 Brit CV/CVLs close to Tabiteuea

India/Burma:

China:

Yenan - Up to 28 Sally hit the AF daily

Changsha -
25th - 12 Oscars with 21(1) Sally = 7b, 4s, 19r;
26th - 12 Oscars with 21 Sally = 2b, 2s, 26r;
In response to this the Chinese Air Force with 46 H81-A3s move down from Chungking while two groups of 25 each (P-40K) fly to Chungking from Ledo. Time for a CAP trap.
27th - NOTHING !?!

Wuchow -
25th - 12 Oscars with 25 Sally = 1b, 7r, 18r;
Another move is for 75 P-38s from India to fly into Kweilin with its size 5 AF with 78 Aviation Support. After a brief rest, I hope to LRCAP trap this base.
26th - 12 Oscars with 21 Sally = 11b, 9s, 18r; my P-38s had rested for one day after their transfer;
27th - NOTHING!!

Hengyang -
27th - 21 Sally = 11b, 7s, 31r; my Chinese H81-A3s at Changsha have their range set to 0;

Sian -
27th - 9 Sally = 5s, 19r; 15 Oscars with 20 Sally = 13b, 7s, 16r; 15 Oscar with 9 Sonia = 4b, 12r; This base may be subject to attacks for months without a response due to low supply issues.

Australia:
Another Transport TF from Cape Town is just off Melbourne.

South Pacific:
Coast Watchers report ships at Noumea port. B-17s at Suva are ordered to hit it on 28th. Another air group upgrades to P-38s here (good supply and AF 8).

Central Pacific: -

Maloelap -
25th - 22 P-38s sweep; 27 B-24s = 4b, 2s, 12r;
26th - 8 Zero & 17 Rufe are on CAP as 31 B-17s & 3 B-24s hit the AF = 3b, 4r; 7 Zero & 16 Rufe from 4 different air groups are still on CAP as 4 B-24s come in = 1s, 2r; a third strike faces 7 Zero & 16(1) Rufe vs 10(3) B-24s = 1b, 2r; his CAP is shrinking as 2 Zero & 5 Rufe vs 7 B-24s = 00; finally, finally my P-38s show up 1(1)Zero & 1(1) Rufe vs 3 P-38F; 22 P-38s find the skies EMPTY!?!
27th - 22 P-38s sweep the empty skies (why couldn't they have come in first yesterday??); 24 B-17s = 1b, 2s, 6r; 3 P38s sweep;

Mili -
26th - 30 B-25s hit the troops = 93c;
27th - 30 b-25s = 96c;

Notes:
Ocean Island Amphib TF approaching Gilberts with CV TFs support close behind.

Transports leave San Fran for Prince Gilbert for Aleutians operations. Want to take those bases before winter starts in November.

Of course not , but I expect her to be at Truk. That is why the few CVs over in Gilberts will stand off and be LRCAP from shore bases. They are there to provide LRCAP for transports and then run away if KB shows up. I have lots of subs on patrol off Truk to the east and SE just in case she comes out.

I have over 200 fighters on CVs and LRCAP from shore involved. I brought in a 2nd PBY group and set for max (17 hexes) at 50% each, so I 'hope' I'm covered. The Brit CV and CVL Hermes will be more exposed than the three American CVs. Two old BB are with the Amphib TF and the base is empty. I placed a few precious APs in with the xAPs to help speed up unloading. I just need to get the troops ashore and the supplies can wait till later. I have small xAKLs at Tabiteuea to do that type of work (almost 100k supplies there). Landing in 2 days. Fingers crossed.

Sept 28, 29, 30 :
We started the month on 16th and got through it yesterday (28th).

Key: TT = Torpedo; bb = ground bombardment; c = casualties; b = base hits; s = supply hits; r = runway hits; p = port hits; f = fuel hits; AV = Assault Value; DC = Depth Charged; (*) = destroyed aircraft;

Subs:
Wahoo is just off Ponape and has a running surface battle with a TK. It took 2 TT hits and 15 shell hits before the TK is sunk. The not so funny part was how many times I saw the message, "Hit! No explosion."

CVs:
Same, same

India/Burma:
Chittagong -
30th - 42 Tojo sweep; Hurricane IIb & c models will be on CAP for tomorrow;

Sian -
28th - 15 Oscars with 17 Sally & 12 Sonia = 4b, 2s, 29r; 15 Oscars with 20 Sally = 8b, 3s, 24r;

28th - 26 Sally = 1b, 4r & 1 P-38 (while my P-38s were off LRCAP, he hits this base for the first time);

Ankang -
30th - 21 Sally = 5b, 5s, 9r;

Australia:

South Pacific:
Noumea -
28th - 31 Zero & 17 Nick vs 45(1) B-17s = 1p; 30 Zero & 14 Nick vs 9 B-17s = 1f; 30 Zero & 14 Nick vs 6(2) LB-30s = 1f; These attacked were not worth it.

Central Pacific: -
Maloelap -
28th - 20 B-17s = 5b, 4r; 22 P-38s sweep;

Mili -
28th - 29 B-25s = 17c (heavy rain);
29th - 23 B-25s = 66c;
30th - 9 Zero & 4 Rufe vs 29(8) B-25s = 43c (getting too predictable can cost you, especially when you don't have any escort fighters );

Ocean Island -
30th - Landing; Shock attack of 6:1 captures the empty base!

Tabiteuea AF goes to level 5 (B-24s will now carry full bomb load)
Nonouti AF goes to level 5

Notes:
Nick reported the P-38s on the 28th in China and most of his air attacks then cease in the south.

BB Maryland is the last of the damaged BBs to leave Pearl is now at Alameda. She will be out for 251 days plus upgrade time.

FYI - The first year of the TV series, "24," is on all day today without commercials on Channel 239 (Audience) on DirecTV. I forgot had much a bad ass Jack B was.

3rd - 22 P-38s sweep;

Ocean Island - supplies up to 12k

Notes:
Makin invasion troops are at Tabiteuea and will head north. This will be the last base in Gilberts to be captured. Then, my warships will get their 10/42 upgrade and the new 40mm Bofors for my CVs.

Between op losses and the occasion CAP, my B-24 numbers struggle just to stay even. Looks like I will need to wait till 2/43 and the newer B-24D1s to come out before I get ahead.

I asked MichaelM about why I got only 1 of 4 F-4 Recon planes as Replacements in September. Any Allied player knows how valuable his Recon planes are in 42 and this was disappointing.

quote:

the replacement rate is randomized on a daily level - (monthly build rate + random(0-29))/30.
A low build rate could very well (with low daily random rolls) give less than the expected monthly total. On the other hand high daily random rolls could give more than the expected monthly total.
With randomness, I would expect that the 30-day total to be rarely the same as the build rate. With the rate over 30, it should be closer as the random wont have too much affect. With a lower rate (<30), if adding the random roll pushes it over 30, then you can 1 plane that day, else none.

I got around both the problem with recon and low numbers of 4Es by using two squadrons of 4Es as recon only. They seldom take losses if you use around 30% rest and fill them out with max pilots. I found the recon I gained by doing this was well worth the price of "loosing" 2 bomber squadrons. Despite not having cameras I got pretty good DLs!

Key: TT = Torpedo; bb = ground bombardment; c = casualties; b = base hits; s = supply hits; r = runway hits; p = port hits; f = fuel hits; AV = Assault Value; DC = Depth Charged; (*) = destroyed aircraft;

S-46 needs two attack phases to sink an xAKL at Kwajalien.
Drum is off Eniwetok and needs ALL her TT to get one hit on a TK (sunk)!!

CVs:
3 American, 2 Brit CV/CVL are 1 hex east of Tarawa providing LRCAP over Amphib TF @ Makin. No Japanese strikes launched.

India/Burma:
With the Monsoon season ending on the 15th, troops move forward. We end the HR that I started with for next monsoon season ('43). John 3rd can use them for his games, but I didn't like this theater being this quiet and Nick agrees.

China:
Yenan - Up to 32 Sally hit the AF daily @ 1k

Lusu War Area HQ is bombed into non-existence over a series of days.

Sian -
5th - 27 Oscars sweep;
6th - 30 Oscars sweep;
7th - 30 Oscars sweep;

Kukong -
7th - 12 Oscars with 26 Sally = 10b, 12s, 44r;

Kunming -

One of two F-4 Recon groups (other F-4 group is in Gilberts reconning Marshalls) with only 2 planes leave Sydney and end up at Pearl.

Central Pacific: -
Maloelap -
5th - 13 B-17s = 1b, 1r;
6th - 23 B-17s = 1b, 3r; 26 B-24s = 3b, 2r; 10 B-24s = 2r;
7th - 22 P-38s sweep;
8th - 11 B-24s = 3r; 19 B-24s= 2b, 1s, 13r; 11 B-24s = 1b, 3r;

Mili -
5th - 22 P-38s sweep;
7th - 25 B-26s = 65c;
8th - 25 B-25s = 54c;

Makin -
7th - Landing; Shock @ 70:1; Captured!!
8th - supplies up to 2280 and just heavy equipment left to be unloaded.

North Pacific:
2x Amphib TFs for Adak and Amchitka leave Kodiak after a brief refuel. CV Wasp and Yorktown with 2x SC TF are just over three days from Dutch Harbor.

Notes:
I see some hits on Nick's AAR. Must be seeking advise or encouragement about how he will defend the Marshalls.

Doing good, setting up a creep like this is good, need to have two by two div+ forces to begin the leap frog as your momentum builds...

Cheers

Rob,

I recently just started prepping for Luganville with two divisions at San Fran. The only problem is they are both restricted and need some of those precious PPs. I'm trying to plan ahead as it is more important with the ability to get a month of prep with troops that have over 50 experience levels.

Oct 9, 10, 11 :
First CVE sunk.

Key: TT = Torpedo; bb = ground bombardment; c = casualties; b = base hits; s = supply hits; r = runway hits; p = port hits; f = fuel hits; AV = Assault Value; DC = Depth Charged; (*) = destroyed aircraft;

Subs:
quote:

Sub attack near Nagai Island at 177,48

Japanese Ships
SS I-25

Allied Ships
CVE Copahee, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage SUNK!!
DD Farenholt
DD Frazier
DD Caldwell

SS I-25 launches 6 torpedoes at CVE Copahee

This is one of many CVEs that are replenishment type. I still had both 28 plane F4F-4s and SBD-3s on board. I should have taken off at least one before they got this far west. Thankfully, I get another 94 CVEs for the rest of the war, but this may have informed Nick that something is up in the Aleutians.

CVs:
CV Wasp and Yorktown are 5 SE of Dutch Harbor
CVs leave Gilberts and are 7 East of Tabiteuea headed for Pearl

India/Burma:
Akyab -
10th - 28 Helen = 8b, 2s, 14r;

China:
Yenan - Up to 29 Sally hit the AF daily @ 1k

Sian -
9th - 30 Oscars escort in 17 Sally & 12 Sonia = 12b, 4s, 45r; 20 Sally = 6b, 2s, 30r;
10th - 30 Oscars with 37 Sally & 12 Sonia = 24b, 8s, 89r;

Kukong -
9th - 12 Oscars with 20 Sally = 8b, 3s, 35r; Another strike with 12 Oscar escorting in 26 Sally = 12b, 6s, 22r; 24 Sally = 7b, 6s, 24r;
10th - 12 Oscars with 20 Sally = 2b, 6s, 32r; 12 Oscars with 26 Sally = 5b, 1s, 32r; 25 Sally = 10b, 3s, 13r;
11th - 12 Oscars with 33 Sally = 3b, 7s, 43r; 17 Sally = 3b, 2s, 13r; 12 Oscars with 13 Sally = 1b, 1s, 10r;

Nanning -
10th - 17 Sally = 1b, 1s, 10r;

Ichang -
11th - 42 Oscars with 37 Sally & 12 Sonia = 14b, 15s, 50r (the number of base and runway hits make little difference to me, but in China the supply hits can hurt)

Kweilin -
11th - 17 Sally = 2s, 14r;

Australia:

South Pacific:

Central Pacific: -
Maloelap -
9th - 19 B-24s = 3b, 6r; 7 B-24s = 1s, 2r; 11 B-24s = 1b, 3r; 7 B-17s = 1b, 1r;

Mili -
9th - 27 B-25s = 2 guns destroyed;
10th - 27 B-25s = 35c;
11th - 25 B-25s = 34c;

Makin -
Supply up over 11k, all troops unloaded, AF 1(2) 59%

North Pacific:
See screenshot. Adak to be invaded in the next two to three days.

Notes:
If KB is at Truk, it will take too long to get to Aleutians if Nick has sent them. If in Japan, he could be there, but I've done little except build up Dutch and Dora Harbor to have him key in this area.

Buying back destroyed air squadrons is costly and they take (IIRC) a year to return, but it's an option.

I already looked into the cost and delay of buying back the air units. They are not a pressing issue and I need my PPs for ground units, especially those expensive full divisions along with some leaders. If an air unit is going to be with me throughout the war, I often use a few PPs for them.

Those 28 plane squadrons are pretty nifty for sweeps though. Well worth the cost IMO!
