Do You Feel Lucky, Punk? Empire(J)vsDirtyHarry (A)(No Dirty Harry please)
I've started a new campaign against Dirty Harry ( the title of the AAR is in reference to his name ), and is something I could imagine Dirty Harry saying to the Japanese player!!
We have'nt played each other before so for me its going to be interesting.
Here is a list of our House Rules:
1. POLITICAL POINTS
Units with permanently restricted HQ’s must pay full PP to cross National Borders.
2. STRATEGIC BOMBING
No strategic bombing in or out of China until : Anywhere from 1941 to start of 1944
No Chinese City bombing until 1944.
No bombing of Chinese Industry.
3. 4 ENGINE BOMBERS
No 4xEngine naval bombing below 10,000ft
4. TF's
No having dozens of 1 ship TF's surrounding important Carrier/Surface fleet TF's to confuse enemy TF's and Air Groups.
5. Land Movement
No dropping of Para Fragments.
No mixing of Chinese Nationalist and Communist units in same hex.
This is the Game setup:
FOW = ON
Advanced Weather = ON
Allied Damage Control = ON
PDU = ON
Historical First Turn = ON
7th December 1941 Surprise = ON
Reliable US Torps = OFF
Realistic R&D = ON
No Unit Withdrawals = OFF
Reinforcement = Fixed
Turn Cycle = 1
Any comments/suggestions/criticism's are welcomed.

RE: Do You Feel Lucky Punk? Empire101 vs DirtyHarry (No Dirty Harry please)
As regards to troop dispositons I will put them down tomorrow.
I am an avid student of the 'Mike Solli's School of Economics', and I am using his great summary of the usage of the Japanese Merchant Marine to get them all to the right places.
So here is the Industry Screen for 8th Dec 1941.
To start with I am going to slowly increase Vehicle production to 400.
All the usual suspects in Aircraft and Engine production have been stopped and/or reassigned to more useful designs.
At the start of the war, my major priority is to increase the production of the Oscar Ic, and the Zero, and these will be the mainstay of fighter production until R&D gives up better aircraft.
To pay for the war, a huge effort will be made in China to secure industry and resources, whilst in the south, no effort will be spared to secure the SRA.

RE: Do You Feel Lucky Punk? Empire101 vs DirtyHarry (No Dirty Harry please)
This is the Allied Ships Sunk Screen.
I'm pretty confident about Repulse and Prince of Wales, as both had several torps stuck in them.
This is interesting as I have come to a different conclusion regarding ships sunk at PH.
The Intel Screen suggests that it was West Virginia, Arizona, and Oklahoma that went to the bottom, whereas I think only Maryland and Arizona are almost dead cert's for the breakers yard. I had'nt even considered Oklahoma as being fatally damaged.
Interesting. I shall keep tabs on these ships and see what comes out in the wash!!

Heavy smoke from fires obscuring AO Shiriya
Thats one AO down already...curses[:(]. But on the upside, his carriers have shown themselves.[8D]
With KB only 400 miles away, the hunt is on and all bets are off.
I've never gone American CV hunting at the start of the game as we all know where they are, and I just think its gamey to do that, but as they have revealed themselves and drawn blood, I can only respond in kind.....the games afoot!!
Elsewhere, Makin was taken, Sasebo 3rd SNLF landed at Kwangchowan, ready to take it next turn, more troop unload on the Malayan Peninsula, and the Mainland China campaign got off to a good start:-

RE: Do You Feel Lucky Punk? Empire101 vs DirtyHarry (No Dirty Harry please)
Do I feel lucky?
The reason I'm asking myself is the dangerous Mersing Gambit Strategy.
I've never employed it, as it is real gambit, what with Singapore unsubdued & with loads of aircraft.
The advantages seem to outweigh the risks, and with the distinct possibility of shortening the siege at Singers.
Well nothing ventured as they say. I'm going to go for it[X(]

RE: Do You Feel Lucky Punk? Empire101 vs DirtyHarry (No Dirty Harry please)
By house rule #1 do you mean those units may not change HQs even when allowed by the game?
rule #3: the raid at Ploesti was below 100 feet (I've seen photos, that's no BS) but those Liberators got mauled badly by flak.
I've heard nothing but bad things about Advanced Weather. Are you sure you want to do that? Too late now I guess.
Oh, and if he starts talking to an empty chair, how many victory points do you get?

If they are allowed by the game its fine.

I just included it because it seems to be a standard house rule that many seem to abide by, but to be honest I'm not that bothered by it.

Whats wrong with advanced weather? I thought it was more realistic. I've never had a problem with it.

I was referring to Clint Eastwood's performance at the Republican Convention. On the Advanced Weather, I'll try and do some research and report back.

What the heck does Coruscant get in the way of news from Earth anyway?
This is just the first post I looked at, and here's a sample from it. This was posted by ADB123.
Since I always play the Game with Advanced Weather set to “On”, and always complain about the resulting unbelievably bad weather, I decided that I ought to try a game with Advanced Weather set to “Off” just to see what the difference really is.
One obvious difference is in the large-sized “Weather Map”. The full screen Weather Map looked like this:
Partly Cloudy___Partly Cloudy___Partly Cloudy
Partly Cloudy___Partly Cloudy___ Partly Cloudy
Partly Cloudy___Partly Cloudy___Partly Cloudy
While, of course, the full screen Weather Map with Advanced Weather “On” usually looks like this:
Iceberg Earth________Iceberg Earth_______Iceberg Earth
Noah's Flood_________Noah's Flood________Noah's Flood
End of the World_____End of the World_____End of the World
Me again. At the end he decided not to ever use Advanced Weather "On" again. I will look for more opinions but it'll be awhile before I can post about it. At least the Weather Map didn't say
Permian extinction______End of the Dinosaurs__________2012, the end of the Mayan Calendar
