Chain of command in China - 9/2/2012 11:39:22 PM

I finally sat down to sort out the Allied side of the land war in China. It's 1/42 in my game, and I'm drawing up my MLR (literally, with printouts and colored markers; very fun). I have some questions:

- Has anyone decided it wise to replace Chiang as head of China Command? And has anyone seen China Command help combat results regardless of who was in command?
- Does anyone delineate War Area borders (i.e 2nd War Area covers Yenan, etc)? If so, tips?
- How much attention do you give to getting Army and Corps HQs close to their combat commands?
- And does anyone replace Army and Corps HQ leaders?

Thanks in advance!

In response to your question about Army and Corps HQs, I do pay attention to is to maximize benefit, because in a fight against good Jap units, you need all the help you can get! I've given some good bloody noses against the Japs even in very early '42. As for changing leaders, yes if the position is really worth holding on to, one needs to stack the die as much as possible.

Hi This isn't my work but I saved it off this forum long ago. My apology to the orginator as I'd love to give them complete credit or direct you to the thread but can't find it.

When I'm playing Allied in China I try to keep the units near their HQ. An exception would be the very small units I break up and scatter in an effort to make Japan tie up forces tracking them down or hopping on roads/rail.

I only pay the price to change them when they're under attack or soon to be. You almost have to as you don't want a rear area type leader in combat it doesn't only cost you in battle but the chances of surrender are higher in my view.

Replacing Chiang is not possible: if you click on his name on the China Command unit, the replacement screen comes up blank. I concur with SuluSea's opinion that you should only replace those leaders in or about to be in combat: Political Points are too dear early in the war to be using them for wholesale changes in command.

Thanks everyone!
@SuluSea - nice map. I ended up with:
- 2nd War Area Paotow, with elements in Ningisa
- Jingchu WA Sian, with some roads to the east as well
- 1st WA Loyang / Tisaotsa
- 5th WA by Nanyang
- 6th WA split between Changteh / Ichang
- 3rd WA by Hengyan and the hex west
- 9th WA by Changsha
- 7th WA by Kweilin
- 4th Liuchow - Nanning

There are some holes in my front, but the AI would have to traverse several road-free hexes to get behind me. I'm curious to see how that'll play out (1st GC).

Capt Hornblower: see image - maybe we're on different patches?
