Status: offline 		I'm wondering if there's any advantage to accelerating the Kaiyo and Shinyo class CVEs using some extra merchant yard points I have available.

I've already have a slew of TKs accelerating and building no extra xAKs that can't be converted into TKs..

Any players on side 1 have thoughts on these two?

Dunno about acceleration per se, SuluSea. I'd certainly build 'em mind you, but I don't know what I'd do with them in, say, early-mid 1943 that I couldn't do with them in late 1943 when they would arrive normally.

Status: online 		I use them to escort my TKs with a DB Sentai on 30/30/20/20 Naval Search/ASW/rest/training ahead of the direction of the Convoy. From Singapore this is 30-90 and from the Home Islands it is 210-270. They find the subs before you get there and then you can avoid them. Also, they will take a torp before the TKs and will make it to port for repair and use again.

1. Have them trail KB by a couple hexes, and provide LR CAP over KB with Zeros. The more CAP the better
2. Equip one with Vals, one with Zeros, and run them in the sea lanes b/w India and Oz, where you're not likely to run into a CV. At least the first time you sink something.....

July 1943 is actually a critical cut-off date; in that month, the USN gets a slew of new CVs, I think 2 CVs and 2 CVLs, so any massed CV battle after that date is not optimal. So if you can accelerate them into early '43, I suppose you can beat that date and have a chance.

You could use them as aircraft transports or load them with those land based Zero/Claude, Val and Kate units to 1) do ASW work or convoy protection and 2) end up with some more 'carrier trained' air units. Those CVEs are quite useful in that role.

I think I'll accelerate them up until they reach the < durability * 10 threshold and make a call at that point if I want to keep accelerating or just build. Three times the cost is a tough pill to swallow.


This far out it's hard to tell what service you'll need the CVEs for but whether it be offensively, protecting high value convoys and/or additional trainers the chioces are all good. The intitial cost is at the expense of 3 TKs accelerating but thier early arrival may save that many and more form being a target.

Win-win.
