ORIGINAL: AW1Steve I'd recommend you slow up on rushing your P-38's to the front. You don't have many , and attrition will use them up quickly. Also, they are not yet the fighters that the P-38's will became. WHAT they do have is a slightly better range than the rest of your fighters. So I'd pick and choose where you use them, and use them where RANGE is the critical factor. You have a lot of P40E's , which is not a bad fighter at this stage of the war. Use the P-38's in a long range escort role, and fill the squadron with VERY experinced pilots, making it kind of an "elite" squadron. Another use I have for it is as a "fire brigade". The P-38s with drop tanks can "self deploy" over long distances rapidly (in a couple of turns). Put them in a central location, well back from bombing or bombardment attacks. Then you can rush them to where you need them in an emergency , when another fighter won't have the range to get there, or will take a couple of extra turns to arrive. This is what I do with the squadron I create early, I move it to Suva and use it's range as a 'reserve' so they can shift to Noumea, Canton, Pago, or wherever to react to any early raids.
