Sirs,

I have an HQ unit moving north out of Alice Springs destination Derby. It moved two hexs on the road north of AS and then took a detour into the desert on a path straight to Derby? Why would it not stay on the road?

Its Op mode is move, strategic movement is not an option. Its future objective is Derby (19).

Thanks

You've forgotten to switch off "alcohol supply". When they are allowed to drink while in the desert, such things can happen!

Those "roads" on the map in N. Oz are really dirt tracks. It's actually a shorter travel distance to go cross country than to stay on the roads.

Maybe this is railway inertia such as in WITP.

Hmmm... I think "Foster's" - Austrailian for Off Road Movement... That's the best answer. I will let them go for a walk about and see what happens...

I know its not in the game, but there is a "road" up through the Tanami desert which would probably be useable in this period.

Maybe AB made a usable trail without showing it on the map.

all kidding aside, alltho kittens are ok,

one needs to be chary of long walkies commands. chittagong to akyab for example should be done as two sets. chit to cox then cox to akyab.

if done as chit to akyab the unit will try to cross the river next to cox , instead of from cox. seems quite a bit slower.

Another curiosity: It is Mar 3, 1942 and I have an operations report that "Wau is occupied by the Allies". My COY unit abandoned it a long time ago, the Japanese did occupy it, and now this message? There are no units in town. Do coast watchers count as occupiers, or can the natives have the Japanese over for lunch?

No they don't.

Any enemy base which has no troops present and is close to your own bases with troops stationed in them, may auto change ownership to you. Clearly the japanese troops have moved out of Wau and you have nearby bases garrisoned with Allied troops.
