I just bought the game and the scenario "Their Toughest Battle" crashes on me either during its load or else very early in playing the scenario. I run the game at 1920x1080 resolution with High detail and High texture quality. This error has me somewhat perplexed considering my computer has 12 GB of RAM and has a 560Ti 2 GB video card.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have to admit, I don't think I've run into that error before. Of course, I've never played with that high of resolution before either.

Have you played any of the other scenarios successfully?

Also, can you try using a lower resolution and see if you still get the error?

Thanks
rick

I think it only happens with this one scenario and not the others as far as I have found.

Thanks, I'll take a look at that one. It would also be good to know if reducing your resolution made any difference.

Thanks!

Thanks for your replies, Rick.

I did play a smaller scenario to completion without any issues. And now I'm trying to start the "Contact at Lipki 4040" scenario, as soon as I click on any unit given German or Soviet, I get a CTD with the following error in the log:

7/23/2012 4:18:13 PM: System.InvalidCastException: Unable to cast object of type 'GameLib.World.ArmouredVehicleUnit' to type 'GameLib.World.InfantryUnit'.

I haven't tried "Their Toughest Battle" yet at a smaller resolution.

One thing both of these scenarios have in common is that they are 'over-sized' maps. Their toughest battle is 2km map and the Lipski is 1.5 Km I think.

I don't have capability to try these at resolution any higher than 1368x760 so I don't know if that is causing the problem or not.

I've started both of these with my system and don't see any issues in my log file. Perhaps someone with higher resolution might try.

I wouldn't expect there to be a problem with your download if you are able to play other scenarios to completion. But I suppose it's possible.

Are your graphics drivers up to date?

Thanks
Rick

I think I found the reason for both issues. I was using sztartur's full infantry mod. I reverted back to the vanilla infantry xml files and both issues disappeared including the "Their Toughest Battle" crash.

Many thanks for your quick replies, Rick.

Excellent news. I should have thought to ask if you had any mods applied.

Thanks for letting us know!

Did you get the mod from the second page of that thread? I think the one on the first page is for before any updates.

Yes, I did get the mod from the second page and I installed it by overwriting the vanilla files after I installed the latest patch. I'm going to uninstall the game again and reinstall it and see what happens.

The B&B scenario is huge. I couldn't even get through a couple of turns on my modest box. It may not be the mod but just the sheer number of 3D models that it is trying to display when there are a lot of squads and you go from 3 men to 10 men models.

A reinstall, reapply of the patch and the full infantry squad mod still has the game crashing on some scenarios. It would have been nice to been able to see all members of the squad, but oh well...still a great game.

I would still try it as a lower resolution with that mod installed and see if that helps. Adding the full 10 man visual adds a LOT to the memory demands.

Thanks

I lowered the resolution to 1280x1024 and loaded up the "Contact at Lipki 4040" scenario and still the same crash with the full infantry mod whenever I click on a unit.

Changed the resolution back to 1920x1080 with High Texture Quality and High Detail and this time installed JMass' Six Guys mod. Same scenario as above and this time no crash. Even "Their Toughest Battle" plays fine.

I compared the memory used and other stats using the F1 key and couldn't see a pattern or much of a difference between the six man mod and the 10 man mod. It appears there may be something with the 10 man mod that my system doesn't like or cannot handle.

Anyway not a big problem and many thanks to both of you for your replies.

Thanks for checking the other resolutions. It's curious that it's ok with the 6 man mod but not the 10 man, but that certainly does seem to be the detrmining factor.

Thanks!
