Well done to Becky Addlington on reaching the 800m freestyle final with the fastest time - Lotte Friis of Denmark was second fastest qualifier.

Guess the scandals continue, this time in boxing. Satoshi Shimizu wedensday lost 22-17 too Magomed Abdulhamidov from Azerbaijan. Thats after the japanease knocked the Azerbaijanian to the ground 6 times in the 3rd round. Some how the refere only counted in 2 cases so it didnt become a TKO.
Protest was made and the result has been overturned.

Lalala, did some one say Seoul olympics....

It has been commented on by overseas athletes how fair our supporters have been, recognising the greatness of athletes regardless of nationality in terms of applause and cheering.

We don't always win - well, truth be told, we rarely win - but we play fair (mostly) and do our bit.

I was at the Montreal 1976 and the Los Angeles 1984 Olympics games and, particularly at the latter, attended many of the events. I was impressed with the conduct of the attendees, cheering for all comers regardless of nationality.

One of my favorite memories of those games was the men's Judo finals. The crowd favorite was the Icelander who won Bronze. The crowd went nuts for that guy-enough to give one goose pimples.

So we play nice with the international visitors too. AND we put people in the stands. We've found that there is generally more audience appreciation for an event if there's actually...you know...an audience.

With a World Record time too - we love Sir Chris Hoy and of course Messrs Kenny and Hines

Still absolutely gutted for Vicky Pendleton - rules are rules so no problem with the decision - but it was just such a shame for what would almost certainly have been another Gold for our cycling queen

Vlad and Cameroon at the judo. Great seats. The empty rows behind them were filled with FSB.

Tagir Khaibulaev of Russia got the gold. He had to win or the Tsar would not have been a happy bunny.

A few words from the Russian leader:
“I would like to thank the distinguished Prime Minister for the invitation to come to London to meet him, and to attend the Olympic Games. I would like to start my statement with congratulations to the United Kingdom, all the nationals of the UK, the distinguished Prime Minister, with regard to the wonderful and unforgettable opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. It was quite a spectacle. It was a wonderful holiday, a wonderful feast presented by you to mankind. We will organise the Sochi Olympics, Winter Olympics, in 2014, and while organising such large-scale events very many problems may crop up. This is why we would be interested in learning from the experience of our British colleagues.”

What a nice man. Very statesmanlike.

I must say its very annoying that they changed the rules in cycling so that you can only have one man/woman per country per event

Team GB were able to double up on a few medals in Beijing - but not this time around so, for example we cannot have Sir Chris Hoy and Jason Kenny potentially battling it out for Gold and Silver....

Why is cycling now treated differently to swimming? Well apart from the obvious...we are not very good at swimming

Yes, but your man is still ahead of Ben Ainslie in the sailing with only two races and the medal race to go.....

Boo-yah. A solid performance by the American swimmers. We take the TOTAL medals lead @ 37 and tie number of golds at 18.

South Korea and France maintain their solid lead over the Britishers in gold medals, leaving them in 5th place. A step in the right direction, Brittania, over your earlier non-performance.

I must say TV coverage is very interesting. I was in England during part of the Beijing games. The games you see on TV in England and the USA is totally different. I barely remember them showing Gymnastics and not much swimming either. This time in the USA its almost 100% gymnastics or swimming. In fact the USA hasn't shown any cycling that I can recall at all... I know everything is available online just different. Not surprising the USA doesn't do as well in cycling but still...
