The home nation performs well this time. Congratulations.

I would suspect that there is a lot of new athletes to consider for knighthood.

I just heard a rumor that IOC are about to disqualify 5 athletes from the Athen's olympic games. Some medal winners are supposed to be among them.

Strange that they take this action but do nothing about the East German swimmers - very odd.

Question presumable is if they have any blood material to "convict" them on. It seems they have gona back and done new test not availble in 2004 to the old blood samples from 2004.

Except in the case of the East Germans it's not hearsay or rumour or supposition - they (the athletes) have all admitted it.

Very sad for the clean athletes e.g. Sharon Davies, to name just one, who devoted her young life to training, training, training and all for what? To get beaten by cheats.

They (I suppose she, theoretically at least) don't give them to sports-persons that often, but this year will be interesting. As Redgrave and Hoy got them, Ben Ainslie should and it would be criminal if Bradley Wiggins doesn't with the Tour de France win (the first ever by a Brit) as well as his medals over the years.

Becky Addlington should get a female equivalent. She is a star - we've never had a female double gold medal winner in swimming and one who then won medals at a second Games.

For a foreigner?! Yeah he's ok, just imagine if he were a Brit, the stadium would have gone beserk.

Fair point. Might have to do something else on top, though, for 'charitee' and such. I was going to compare her with Kelly Holmes, but it seems she (Holmes) had already been awarded an MBE (military division) long before Athens.

If that's true, it would be nice if they could fly those who were cheated out of their rightful medal to London for a special ceremony to receive them in front of a full stadium.

Indeed he is.

Did anyone notice the bottle thrown into the stadium just before the start? Good that the sound of the bottle landing didn't interfere with the start of the race.

I saw it, looked like a microphone to me - thought it was from one of the suit wearers. Hope they find out who threw the bottle. Isn't quite sportsmanship like, is it?

Here is a link that shows the bottle landing. It is about 12 seconds into the movie. Hopefully this link works in your countries as well.

I was afraid of that. The youtube video of this was removed just a few minutes after it was uploaded.

I find that the policy of restricting internet access by country annoying. Hopefully I didn't make a to political statement.

On BBC breakfast this morning they said it was a drunk in the crowd who has been arrested. A Dutchman (a judo expert) has posted on Facebook that he was next to the moron and he "beat" him.

Let's hope so.....

Inspiring a generation?

Until there's a final collation of which education sector won what at London 2012, the debate over schooling is likely to rage on. At the time of writing, private school athletes had won 32% of Team GB's medals.

And that's the BBC.

Well, the Team GB medal bus has well and truly come to a crashing halt this evening

I think we need more cycling and rowing events in the Olympics
