.................No, they are real azz kickers!! I had a lapse in my anti virus while I was doing research for a better ( i.e. cheaper) program... Hey I'm an older guy that doesn't surf porn , use p2p or facebook.... I'll be fine for a few days...

Somewhere along the line I picked up Rootkit.boot.SST.b virus and it is a bear to get rid of. I've been at it since last thursday trying to get a handle on it. It's in it's death throes now but it hasn't been fun at all.

I'd encourage all my friends on this forum to please have some kind of anti virus program installed so you don't have to go through the same thing.

sometimes the only way to get rid is a format and reinstall the OS...had to do it a few times over the years.

More easily than you would like...unfortunately. Easy as in hovering your mouse over a banner somewhere on a trusted site, say a blog or some other news site, or even maybe a wargaming site, only the banner has been infected without the admin noticing it and *blammo* you're infected. Easy as that. I said *hovering* your mouse... you don't even have to click on it that's the disturbing part.
Or, it could go via mail attachements, you know, friends sending you some funny stuff and such, or .. or... well you get the idea.
So yeah firewalls and virus scanners are advised and even then they only block/remove 85% of known virusses or so.

This is how I most likely picked it up. Case in point a few weeks ago when I had protection it was flagging a page on MLB.com site when I went to view pitching matchups.
