At the start of the game the 47th BG, on the west Coast, consists of a HQ unit and 3 BS. Each of these has 1 plane and 1 pilot. The BG is set to permanently withdraw one month after the game start (15th of Jan, 42). They use B18's, so there are no replacements due to fill out the squadrons and there wont be planes to upgrade the squadrons in the short time available.

On top of that they can't be withdrawn, only permanently disbanded.

What am I missing? What can you do with this group?

essentially...practice your mouse skills as you point click and disband.

(they are annoying to have to deal with.......)

Fill them up with pilots and get a month's worth of training. Just remember to transfer the pilots out to reserve before disbanding the squadrons.

Let me guess, this was in response to someone posing "where is 47th BG, I want my 47th BG, waaaaa, this game is borked"?

Historically this unit only served on the WC only a couple of months before it was shipped to the EC to train on A20's then moved to the Med after Torch. It wasn't until summer 45 that it came home only to have the IJ surrender cancel plans to move it back to the Pacific. Only thing you can really do w/ the time you have them is as mentioned earlier, train as many pilots as you can before you lose it. There's a few units on the WC at the start of the war that this will happen to as the unit was either turned into a training unit or tranferred to Europe/Med & this is the way that the designers came up w/ to simulate that.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I just wanted to check there wasn't some aspect of the game mechanics I had just failed to grasp.

Wasn't the 47th BG the inspiration for the training squadron from Steven Spielberg's classic documentary, 1941, detailing the exploits of CPT Birkhead and 'Wild Bill' Kelso?

1941 at IMDB

For some reason, every time I shift around the various Coastal AA units near LA in the game, I worry about the houses along the coast...
