I think their light mortar was interesting, and very useful, had it been produced in greater numbers. The Japanese army desperately needed support weapons. And their torps were very solid designs (albeit, resulting in the loss of several of their CAs from hits in the torpedo mounts, so perhaps a double-edged sword). These days, I rather wish that the JNSDF would build a CV or two, but that is a discussion for some other place.
