As usually Europe is behind USA.
So anybody from the other side of the pond is willing to share some early opinions and screens from Civ V add-on?
Was it worth to preorder?

For what it's worth I find Civ has become very cartoony since Civ IV, Civ V is too much cameraplay and graphics for me. I'd prefer it a notch cleaner and simpler, sure 3D units and effects are nice but this way there's too much clutter and eyecandy on the maps.

I only play IV - sorry to the OP - that comment was of no help whatsoever

I tried V but I ended up going back to IV. The figures in V just seemed too big and cartoony. Also I think the game got streamlined just a little too much so I stopped playing. Sorry I could not help more.

Based on what I got off the Steam forums, it's best to wait for a sale. The AI doesn't use some of the new features properly, etc.

There is that Steampunk scenario ... There are a few screenshots of it in this thread over on the grogheads forums.

p.s. Greenmangaming has Gods+Kings for 25% off (use code CIVIL-IZATI-ONGOD) for ~$23 (until 1100 UTC 6/22)

I played civ2, three and four.  I still play civ5.  I don't like some of the changes in it but still its not that bad.  I feel so alone....in the crowd.  But I am probley not normal.

...just to tempt you a bit more.....saw this on grogheads....[credit to tgb]

getgamesgo.com is still offering a "pre-release" price of $21.98, which I think will be the cheapest you will find it, at least until the Christmas sales. And yes, it is legit. They emailed me a Steam key, and I'm downloading now. Just make sure when you place your order to change region from U.K. to "other parts of the world",

I like it. Haven't noticed any problems with regards to the AI using/not using the new features. There is a little bit of animation lag, but it's something that can be endured (provided they fix it in a patch). Definitely worth my pre-order money.

If you like CIV 5 (which I do), then this is a great add-on.

I think they are saying that it will never be PBEM (which is what was so great about CIV IV) and I do not do non-PBEM multiplayer, so I cannot comment on whether the multiplayer changes work well. All the other changes are interesting.

I have played about 30 hours so far and I hope I am not correct, but I think it is easier than ever to beat the AI. They introduced more variables (religion and spies), and I think the more variables you have, the less the AI can do a good job. But hopefully I am not correct in this area.

Buy it and have fun.

I think it made Civ5 better than it was, that being said, I have still to log as many hours on Civ5 as I ever did on Civ, Civ2, Civ3 or Civ4.
If you like Civ5, I would say that the expansion is worth it, as it adds some nice stuff, although the tech stealing seems to get out of hand at times imo.

How bad is the Tech stealing. I am playing Civ5 and thinking about buying the expansion. Also after you install the expansion does effect your current game?

I have not tried to restart a previous game after installing, so I cannot tell you if it affects earlier games, but I doubt it.

The Tech stealing...It gets bad from mid to late game, I'll try to explain;
-you get a new spy (they are not built anymore, you get a fixed number) whenever you reach a new age or build a specific wonder.
-you can place your spy in your own city to kill enemy spies, in an enemy city to steal techs or in a city state to rig their elections.
-some buildings will give a +25% chance to stop tech stealing from your cities.

The problem arises if you are technologically advanced, as all AIs will send their spies to your cities to steal techs, in one game I believe the AIs stole something like 15 techs all in all untill I got a late age wonder which gave a +99% spy defence in the city it was built, and +25% spy defence in all other cities in your empire. The problem is that there is something like 150ish turns from the first spy arrives untill you get to build that wonder (do not recall which one atm, sorry). So, expect to have a tech stolen aprox every 10 turns if you are ahead in techs.

It is not a gamebreaker in any way, but it is really annoying imo.

The expansion did not affected my previous games.

Also it does not affect some of the older scenarios.

You can always turn spies off if you set up the game yourself, then chose advanced options, no spies. But I must admit I really enjoy rigging city-states elections...

Terje, if you turn off spies will that reduce or do away with tech stealing?
