after all these years, heres about the only improvement to this game I would like to see.

The disengagement.


You have a division in a hex, say Akyab, and the enemy enter.
OK, you decide to fight.
But soon, you realise, this aint going to hold.......

But you cannot retreat, because you are so slow.

Bang!, suddenly, a wrecked divisionis thrown out of the hex you could not march out of.


My proposal
You hit a new button, DISENGAGE
25% of the divisions/unist involved in that hex are immediately destroyed,(the rear guard left to fight on) but the rest, undamaged, moves out of the hex.

A controlled retreat, that costs, but gives hope of fighting on.
The attacker sees a new combat animation, REARGUARD action, and then in following turns, can pursue.


Thoughts?

Nice future to have. Giving lots of flavor to ground war.

Question is, is this possible with game engine and if someone will want to do code changes?

Only improvement? Entire ground combat model should be improved. One day turns and 40 mile hexes is not very good combination...
