Strange Lines?

Achtung Panzer:Operation Star is an Eastern Front wargame with solid graphics and sprawling battlefields that really emphasize the scope of WWII tank combat. The gameplay is a remarkably realistic turn-based and real-time operational/tactical hybrid wargame that continues the series begun by the acclaimed Achtung Panzer: Kharkov 1943.

Strange Lines?

Post by lancer »

G'day,

Can anyone tell me what these lines represent?

Image

I'm referring to the coloured lines that appear between some of your units when you mouse over them on the operational map.

In the example above they are yellow but I've also seen red or green.

Can't find anything in the doc's. Bit of a mystery.

For a bonus point could you also tell me what the blue circle represents?

Cheers,

Hi.

I am still guessing about stuff like this, but I think the circle represents command range or some equivalent area of influence. The lines between the units seem to represent different things. When drawn from an HQ unit I am guessing that they show the relationship to subordinate units and that the color of the lines indicates whether communication is effective or not. When lines are drawn between supply or replacement units and combat units, they indicate which combat units are being resupplied or receiving replacements.

I always thought those were troops that were close enough to make it into the tactical battle. Could be wrong though.

No, I'm pretty sure that the troops close enough are marked with a little red X when you mouse over the battle flame.

G'day,

Further investigation has revealed the blue circles represent the units movement radius on the operational map.

Really like to know what the unit-to-unit coloured (green/red/yellow) linkages are though...

Strange that they would show a movement range when the eligible movement objectives are shown with a green square...

Ahh, O.K.

So the blue circles represent a unit's resupply range.

Good to know.

Can anyone tell me what the unit linkage lines mean?

Looking at the picture above, right there is a green linkage line but it is dashed, unlike the solid yellow/green/red ones I've shown in the picture at the top. Still a mystery.

According to Andrey in the Graviteam forum,
what do the different lines between the comanding units and line units mean that are new since last patch. Are there descriptions of the new patch features?

Yellow - from commander to platoons
Red - from platoon to commander
Green - from platoons in same coy

G'day Shrek,

Thanks for enlightening me.

Next question is what practical effect do any of these have?

So the lines show the organic composition of a company? Am I right?

They also appear between supply units and receiving units, so I am not sure...

How can one have both a red line and a yellow line between the same two units?

G'day,

The lines are relevant only to the unit you have your mouse over so duplicate lines aren't an issue.

What game effect they have is still unclear.
