I'm also experimenting with tweaking the lightness and saturation of the green height textures we use to make these clearer. It's hard for me to judge this because I found the original textures we used to be fairly distinct from each other. I'll post some screenshots here. Please let me know whether you'all think these are distinct enough height differences, or whether they need to be distinguished further.

These are nice as well and do show the elevation, but I prefer the "classic" ones your working on if only because they look more like the boardgame.  Just my 2 cents

I think having different colors for heights works better.
When you have some distance between two hills, it's easiest to read.
