1) any good threads on Intel?
2)Is the intel for Japan worse then for the Allies? I haven't played the Allied side for a long time but I know that the intel would say "troops stationed at x" etc.
Japan seems to only get useless radio transmission. And even when it comes to sinking ships the intel is very bad. Some thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thanks
Darren

1)not aware of any

2) Best what you can get from Japanese Intel is "Heavy radio traffic in Los Angeles"
So I can say - ther is no Japanise intel.

Well that stinks~! I suppose "heavy volume of radio traffic" would mean a fairly large TF?

It can mean everything. Large TF or fishing boat. It can by also ghost signal. For Japan it is always lottery.

What should take your attention is when radio signal is moving in logical path. I mean logical speed and direction. That is with big possibility enemy TF.

I don't even bother looking at my Intel report half of the time. Pretty much worthless.

In most cases yes. But as my current game showing. Intel rapports show me huge invasion fleet sailing toward Marshall`s 3 days before they enter search range. So sometimes it is working. Let say 1 on 20 times.

I found it is not totally useless but it is a bit like reading tea leaves. Always good to know that the Saipan Naval Fortress is stationed at Saipan. I have used it to great effect every once in a while but it is a bit like pulling a needle out of a hay stack.

My biggest issue is that it doesn't model RL Intel gathering at all. The Japanese were very good at traffic analysis, RDF, and ESM. The Allies had all that plus code breaking. The game really doesn't give us the info the RL commanders received from their intelligence units. I suppose that offsets the fact that we already see far more than we should.

For example. the Battles of Eastern Solomons were not accidents. Both sides knew the enemy was at sea and moved to deal with the threat.

radio transmissions means the DL of that base has increased. Go to that base to see what is now visible. HVY radio => more than 1 DL increase.

I've not played the Japanese side yet, but I certainly find the Allied intel useful and it can only be ignored at one's peril.

from reading in some AARs, Intel is often useful when studied over a period of time.

to form a real-life analogy, assume that the game's Intel report is 'raw' intel, it must be collected over time & analysed repeatedly. for a WitP game, an occaisional scan of a turn's Intel screen won't give you much.

tracker's Intel screen can be exported to a csv file, ready to be opened/sorted/searched in Excel. might take about 10 minutes per orders phase, over time the process could yield gold, even for the IJ player.

If you get two reports of 'heavy ...' in one base during a turn, you will often even get a look at what is sitting there. Can help, not as much as Allied intel, but useful.

I find blips in the ocean a lot though. These are usually something important.

Later, in tracker, you can also look to see how much intel is accumulating from certain bases and deduce quite a lot. Not exactly what is there, but definitely that something might be happening. Then the Glens can go see what it is!

I love it when you get messages like "Tokyo Fortress is located in Tokyo".

Thank you, Captain Obvious...

just t'other day, i noticed that the "Radio transmissions detected at nn,nn" (where the hex-coords are a non-base sea hex) msgs correlate to the appearance of an enemy TF symbol in that hex. a mouseover on that TF symbol doesn't yield any popup info.

I like that feature. Does the same thing for ground units, too.

DL = 1 you only get a ship symbol. You would need to get the DL higher to learn more. There is FOW on these BTW, so beware of that aspect.
