When I watch something like this, I am over-awed and humbled in the face of such bravery against overwhelming odds.

Fantastic clip, thanks for sharing!

It's also a pretty effective rebuttal to those who claim that Allied 4-engined bombers are over-rated defensively... Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

I had 17 fighters intercept a B-17, I lost 3 fighters and the b-17 got away.

Clearly this game is broken [:@]

But if you watch the film, it was not a standard configuration...they had added more guns to the plane. Remember that the complaint isn't so much that they are too tough, its that they are the most effective Allied fighter of the early war in game. [;)]

I think the film is more a testament to just how much of a beating the B-17 could take...shot to pieces and still makes it home. And definitely a testament to an extremely brave crew who went above and beyond the call of duty.

Thats what the commanders of the Imperial Navy said after Midway.
They sent millions of kamikaze forum postings complaining about the design of WWII.
Unfortunately for them the devs did not listen. They did not have email yet. Now it is too late to change.
cheers

dogfights is probably the most biased show ever made..

Showdown: Air Combat is really good and fair (military channel)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGvoPFdH ... ure=relmfu

and they have the actual planes flying in a mock dogfight..
looks a lot more real in modern colour than bad CGI

But in the game the odds aren't 17:1. More likely to be 27:12 or something like that. And if Zeroes can't succeed at 17:1, then they aren't going to succeed at 2 or 3:1 either.

some of the Aces were able to shoot down B-17 is zeroes..

.. but most pilots not, and many went down in flames trying

Japanese really needed that 4xHo-3 Tojo version that they never built..

or put 4xHo-3 in the nose of a Toryu (Nick) instead of all that fuel..

you would think they would understand the idea of a long-range 2-seat escort fighter was obsolete since the Battle of Britain happened about 2 years ago..

It's a nice story, but clearly a fluke. Maybe one out of hundred.

another example of how 4E planes are a lot, repeat SIGNIFICANTLY
more durable than 2E planes

B-17 at the top of the list

B-24 and H8K share second place

a japanese plane that could survive hits from 37mm aircobra guns.. would have been
smart to build a few thousand of them
