Your doing fine, stop stacking your units though. You've inflicted plenty of damage and those southern units will get to live another day (well, some will). Don't defend to the west of leningrad, those units will get cut off. Dig in depth and make him fight for every hex, except down south where you have to defend the Dnepr and then conduct a gradual fighting retreat.

Of course everything all right! On T6 I busted all these pockets and with significant benefit. Now its absolutely clear for me that pocketing is love of German player. Manpower, not industry is a primary target for his Germany in this game. Obviously Germany start wasting time.

T6 Soviet, NW Front. Unblocking Pskov Pocket. Cutting off AGN.

Nice counterstroke! It will not last but it will definitely set him back and leave him with a skimpy supply situation.

Edit: Is that a paradrop by the airborne brigade? That was slick!

Nice one! Not sure if I've ever seen an airdrop on turn 6, which transports did you use?

Non cheesy paradrop, well done. But am surprised you had enough air transport to swing it this early. What did you use?

T6, Soviet, W Front. Unblocking central pockets. Cutting off German divisions near Smolensk.

3 groups of Li-2, 3 groups of TB-3G2 for two paradrops.

EDIT: Sorry, I saw my screen below and realized that these two TB-3G2 I converted only on T6. So, even less were used for the paradrop - 3 groups of Li-2 and 1 TB-3G2.

Did you manually convert some U2 transport groups? I don't recall having so many Li2 groups and TB3G2s by turn 6. The frames are in the pools, but not the regiments.

Yes I converted them manually from U2 on T5 expecting I will need them on T6. Now nearly all of them damaged but job is done!

Thanks, Flaviusx. This trick I was learned from my friend ("beekeeper" on matrix forums). I always play German with him and he may prepare 3 airdrops for T3. After seeing this I started to believe that pockets is more problem for Germany than for Soviet.

Really nice trick! I will sure be trying to emulate that!

This is totally non cheesy, but historically, I am wondering if this isn't a tad early for Soviet paradrops?

Large scale combat drops didn't happen until the winter, but this wasn't for technical reasons. The Red Army just needed the bodies at the front. It could have in theory conducted these sorts of drops.

Anyhow, I applaud the creativity here. This is a totally legitimate use of the airborne, no crazy suicidal stuff. It just never occurred to me that the lift was available this early. I had forgotten about the U2 transport regiments, which now arrive early enough and in large enough numbers to flip over to usable transports. (This will not work with U2 transports. They haven't got the lift. Or the range.) This wasn't always the case, btw, I think it got changed somewhere along the line. Probably when the production rates of the U2 transport increased. (It was smaller in earlier version.)

So now you don't have to wait until the silly AI decides to kick out some regiments using the big transports. The pools were always there, but the AI is remarkably slow about forming new groups that tap into those pools. As a matter of fact, I don't think it will ever form regiments using the TB3s, you have to manually upgrade these, only the Li2 will (very slowly) result in new regiments formed.

No one tank division were moved by rail. More than 30 000 railcap saved for evacuation of industry. Half of Kirovskiy zavod (KV1 in Leningrad).
