Best phone I ever had is the one I have now - the Razr Maxx. The worst phone I had was the iPhone.

Now, the iPhone is not a bad phone per se, but in terms of other features it's just a giant disappointment. I test drove an iPhone and an Android for several months earlier this year just to see what I would prefer once my contract was up, and it wasn't even a real contest. The iPhone, with it's restricted functionality due to Apple's design philosophy is frustrating - for the price I paid for it I should be able to do more with it. I don't like the small screen either. It might have been the bomb back in the day but it's not all that any more.

Different strokes for different folks. iPhone is consistent and simple. Android offers freedom and complexity. Whatever you prefer.

Worst:

I had an HTC that ran Windows Mobile about 3 years ago. It froze every time someone called and I'd have to do a battery pull, reboot and call them back. It was funny too because the same phone was always being used by the protagonist in this crappy TV show called My Own Worst Enemy and he did all kinds of cool crazy stuff with it that never actually worked on mine.

Best:

Right now I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 which works pretty damned well. I haven't had a single freeze up, 2 cameras, 1 with flash. High def video. Its pretty kick ass.

I wanted an iPhone but my plan didn't offer one as an upgrade. I'm pretty happy with what I 'settled' for.

I've got an LG Rumor2 that'll be 3 yrs. old in Sept.

It works just fine and I will continue to use it until the battery craps out.

Wodin, I'm gonna do you one better - let's call it the "We Won't Be Suckered Into Buying Your New Technology Every Six Months Club" - phones, computers, TVs, everything.

It makes me sick the way this crap is marketed.

Back in the eighties early nineties people with mobile bricks where mocked and jeered at for being yuppie (can't say the res as it's profanity). Then some marketing genius turned the mobile into a fashion accessory.

Nothing wrong with it at all.

The most disturbing thing I'm starting to see is the dependency on it. I seriously think there are people out there who are lost if there's not an "app" for something they want to do.

Could most folks read a compass or a topographical map if their battery was dead? I hope so, but I doubt it.

It's just the dependency on this stuff that really scares me for people.

Careful Nate, your showing your age. It's called a generational gap. I used to feel that way about my palm pilot.

They don't teach you how to balance a checkbook in school much less how to read a map. You have every right to be concerned.

Why would you need a map in Middletown, all you need to know is how to get to the Jug and Sunset and smith park.

But Middletown has changed a lot over the years.

Hate em...never bought one, was given one though. I hate the phone. I hate people phoning me as I'd rather be left in peace, to know people can contact me wherever I am is horrific to me.

+1 Wodin! I feel exactly the same way...I cringe when the phone rings...it is a running joke amongst friends and family whether any of them ever get a return call from me. I screen all calls. I was bad before, but then worked in tech support as a level III escalations tech for some backup company (all calls as you can imagine are from distraught users knowing they are a single step away from being told all their data is gone) for a short time...that pushed me over the edge into phone rage/phobia :)

...That said I have a Samsung Galaxy SII and it is the best phone by far of all the smart phones I have had (samsung epic, galaxy S, iphone, motorola droid, Palm, blackberry)...the only problem I have with it is that it is a phone :)

The worst one probably was my first one. An Ericsson GH 172 back in 1992. Has been so big that it barely fitted in a large jeans pocket. Nowadays, my iPhone wakes me up in the morning, goes with me whole day and serves as a stereo system at sound dock in the night. I couldn't do a step without this device anymore. Not that I would call a lot, but I need it for everything else.

I'm with you on this wodin, I despise the things! They encourage people to be rude, selfish and are eroding civilized behavior. In my experience, 9 out of 10 "incidents" on the road are caused by some jerk who can't put down the phone. I've seen assholes shop and pay for items, all while talking on the cellphone, and they can't even acknowledge or say thank you to the clerk. I've seen them spill gas, walk into walls, trip and fall, and cause auto accidents, all so they can say HI, and How is your day. When your ear swells with a big old tumor, don't cry to me.

I joked about wodin's response, but I agree with you both. Cell phones DO cause rudeness, inattention and stupidity. Some of the people who work for me frequently chastise me when they can't reach me when I not at work. It is frightening that people think they need to be in contact with each other 24/7. And it is not just people of a certain generation that have this need to be in touch. Folks in their 40's and 50's, who did not have cell phones(for the most part) when they started working for a living. I am constantly telling people in my department that they look bad if they can't make even basic decisions without asking me. Oh, and NO I have not caused them to be that way. Well, except for the times I hang them from their thumbs.

+ 1 Woden!
I too have avoided mobile phones.
Until last week when I was given one. So I got a $20 – 1 month cap to try it out.
It sends and receives phone calls and TXT messages.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Sydney buses never run to timetable. Drivers I have spoken to tell me that they always leave the depot on time. As soon as a bus reaches the first bus stop it will never again stick to the time table due to traffic. So the time table is of no use!

Every bus carries a GPS.

Every bus stop has a bus stop number.

So, send a TXT message to Sydney buses. The message is the bus stop number.

And the answer comes back with a list of buses that will soon reach that bus stop! And how many minutes away each one is!

This is really useful!

And you can be standing in your house or sitting in the office to send and receive the message!

For the first time I have found a fantastic use for a mobile phone!

.
.
.
I have not yet contacted a human with this device

I've had every version of the iphone since it first came out. I cannot even imagine not having one. Not sure if it's the best or not but I love having all my itunes songs and movies actually on the phone instead of carrying an ipod around.

I went from an iPod 1st generation to an iPod 4th generation to an iPhone 4s64gig. My wife calls me high matinence I tell her I like high tech gadgets. With just the iPhone 3s, iPhone 4 and 4s the have about 44% of the market share and there is a reason for that. And while the android market has 51% you have to remember it offers well over a hundred types of models. Blackberry has 3% while windows has only 1%. Remember when windows was going to crush apple with the Zune? They don't even make zunes anymore.

In 1990 my lady and I planned a cross country trailer trip, we wanted to communicate from anywhere in the continental USA. The only unit we could find that would aiiow us the ability was a Motorola bag phone, weighing in a ~ 10lbs, size of a large volume (book) had a 12" antenna was battery powered and/or 12vdc. It never let us down wherever we were. Used it for an additional 10 years as a backup in FL. It was retired with honors, but no regrets.

Tracfone service is really crap now(call restriction - 34)what the @#$% is that?, I'd stay away from those. Net10 $25 for 700 minutes a month works pretty well, but might go to Metro PCS for $25 unlimited a month.

Can't wait for the day I don't need a cell phone anymore! I absolutely HATE the things.

I just think we rely on the phone too much. However, it has so many benefits. But its The way we can't live without our cell phones just seems like there is something not healthy there.

MY DEAL WITH THE Cell PHONE IS I JUST WANT A PHONE THAT'S USED AS A PHONE. Non of this internet and texting capabilities. A Plain simple phone that can recieve phone messages when I don't answer is sufficient for me.

I hate it when I have the cell phone in my pants pocket and I bump against something, sure as shoot'in the internet message button has been pushed. Grrrrrr. You don't know that you activated the internet until maybe an hour later you need to make a phone call. Then you see the internet activated!!!

I just buy the most straight forward cell phone I can find. I use a Samsung right now. I like a Cell phone that has a good speaker phone.

worst was my motorola v511, battery died on me twice and reception wasn't that great on it. My best one yet is iPhone 4, I'm happy with it, good reception I like the fact that it integrates with my car and all my music is on it (32GB of space) - I use it in my car..no more bucket load of CDs!!!

What annoys me the most is if someone is talking to you and their phone goes off they answer it cutting you short! That is rude. I would quickly turn it off and then later after I finished speaking to whoever it was face to face I'd check the phone to see who it was then ring them back.
