I am working through the smaller scenarios thanks to Curtis Lemay's useful spreadsheet showing the approximate size of scenarios.

The thing with a game with fixed scenarios is that I always feel I am using up precious ammo. Try as one does replaying a scenario just isn't the same as a new scenario.

Games I have with random scenario generators are: Combat Mission; Advanced Tactics; Steel Panthers.

Any suggestions? (doesn't have to be WW2). Also I like games where I can play a scenario in 1-3 hours.

Also, in TOAW is it possible to part randomise a scenario - e.g. starting locations or unit strength? In AGEOD's games you can randomise generals attack/defence/strategic ratings so that adds some variety.

The closest game system with randomaized battles and dynamic campaign would be any of the JTCS bundle. In order to adjust a TOAW, I recommend the SSG appraoch, e.g. the 'What-if' scenario variants. I love this when I had the C-64 classics, e.g. Panzer Battles, etc.

SCENARIO VARIANTS
(a). Assume Operation Friderfcus had been scheduled to jump off at the same time as the
Soviet offensive. Bring forward the arrival time of all units in 3rd Pz Korps to tum 3. Change
the arrival hex to 18,27. Bring forward the arrival of the Soviet 5th and 6th Cavalry Corps
and 73rd Infantry Corps to turns 6, 1 and 4 respectively.
(b). The Soviets were tardy in committing reserves to the offensive once the initial break-through had been made. To rectifY this, bring forward the arrival of 3rd Guard Cavalry Corps...

Aletrnatively, feel free to use my Tutorial '41 and modify, play around with it. It will give you insides about the game and how to create, withn just minor modifications, a brand new scenario etc.

Thanks Oberst - went and bought that JTCS.

Had a quick look for your Tutorial '41 - does it go under another name somewhere as the tutorials seemed to be Korea, Tannenberg (but directory empty) and a couple of others?

PS
Incidentally, on the Matrix JTCS forum thread "Scenario List" post 10 - there seems to be somebody called andym who remarkably similar to Colonel Klink judging by the photo !

Edited re website issue resolved.

Tutorial '41 is in the tutorials folder? Or maybe I put it there later myself? Sheesh, can't remember

On another note, congrats on your purchase of JTCS. I love the game engine to bits, there's an awesome debt in what at first glance seems to be such a simple system. Please visit the Blitz forum for discussion, as the JTCS forum at here tends to be a bit quiet nowadays: http://www.theblitz.org/message_boards/forumdisplay.php?fid=8

Lots of PBEM buddies there as well, I like to play AI but love the PBEM, nothing like meeting new guys to share a hobby. Joining the ladder at Blitz is sort of expected, but lots of people there just for fun, not for the ladder. And as I see it, playing a long scenario over PBEM sucks if you lose the other guy as he gets bored or something. That is why I prefer to stay at the ladder there, because you can trust the lads not to disappear on you.

But regardless, even if you prefer AI it is not like you will ever run out of scenarios with JTCS, there are new ones coming out as we speak.

Nothing to undermine TOAW with those comments btw. These two game engines are it for me. These two and Total War series, that is :)

I created it and I can email you the slides as well as the scenario file itself. It also can be downloaded from the Gefechtsstand.
