One way it seems to best face attrition is to make all Corp HQ supporting 4 divisions and send the others packing to safety (warmth.) ????

You'll need most of your exsiting Inf div. on the front.  Sending your more specialized brothers, the mobile units, to warmth is a tried and true method for a good Summer 42 offensive.  If you look at your reinforcement listing you see you'll get about 12 or so fresh inf. divisions at the end of winter.  I would keep these on hand to be your 'line smashers' for when you start new offensive ops instead of sending them directly to the front as they trickle in.

May work as long as you keep your frontline as short as possible without bulges and using every terrain feature imaginable that can at least delay SU offensives (3+towns, cities, forests, swamps, rivers).

True. However I try to buy the one or two weeks until swamps or rivers become "clear". To me it's better than nothing.

uehr, whule swamps may freeze in winter, they still provide defensive bonusses as normal, so they remain excellent defensive terrain, even in blizzard.
