I have Chitose in a llarge port, and its time for the conversion to a CVL, and I never get the tab to allow it? thoughts on this? also do players feel that the conversion from a6m2 to a6m3a for the carrier has an appreciable difference, also the conversion to a6m5, eventually one gets armor I think

Chitose can only be converted in Tokyo

The A6M3a is superior to the A6M2. I would suggest you take the upgrade. I actually still use them in january 1944 as the range on them is great, you can escort LBA torpedo bombers about 15 hexes!

Several reasons why to upgrade.. Also bear in mind that the A6M2 is a dead end production wise..

Yes, Chitose/Chiyoda can only be converted in Tokyo, and there have to be size 50 repair yard.

It is not necessary to route CS Chitose to Tokyo undergo its upgrade.

If you take a close look at the upgrade dialog details you will see that all that is required is a Shipyard with minimum size of 25.

To be a little pedantic here, the shipyard size means 'Repair Shipyard' size. Any facility which meets this requirement will do.

However, given it will take some 300 days (at least) to complete the conversion, choosing a location that is unlikely to get decked/retaken by the allies should be contemplated.

Hey bk19, trust me.. you need Tokyo. Another base doesn't work!

Yes, Tokyo, and IIRC the repair yard needs to be 100.

Cannonfodder is correct. "Conversions" from anything to CS/CV MUST take place in the National capital, i.e., Tokyo. Don't give a rat's what the shipyard status is. CAs to CS - Tokyo. BBs to BBVs - Tokyo. "ANYTHING" to xxxCSVLE - Tokyo. This has been said many times before. I hope it is becoming clear.

in the game the A6M2 and A6M3a are about equal

in truth, A6M3a was a LOT better than A6M2

1) faster with better altitude performance

2) High velocity 20mm guns with 120rds/gun versus low velocity with 60 rds/gun

a few kg/m2 higher wing loading but not significant at all

sadly... once the A6M3a was the standard... japanese pilot quality dropped and USAAF planes improved

sorry guys the chitose is in tokyo, and there is no option to allow it, except to show what the option does. I think a bug is the probelm? Do I
have to wait for the 1st of the month?

If Tokyo have big enough repair yard (size 50) and upgrade is "yes", conversion starts when you end the turn.

This and it should be November 42 (or later) also.

In Scen 1 you need to build up Tokyo.  Scen 2 though, I think Tokyo is already big enough ...
