January, 15, 2772:
What a terribly hangover, yesterday I took office after one of the most disputed elections in Human history. I arrived at my office on the Capital at Niilgaemun 2 and looked around.
The Niilgaemun Federation is a society made of 6 planets which decided to unite after the people of Niilgaemun 2 started to explore the stars and contacted the other human settlements.
The unification was a turbulent period which lasted for more than 30 years slowing down space exploration. Negotiations, wars, deaths and myths, many myths.
It was only 10 years and 2 presidents since humanity was unified.
We had to go to space in order to survive, everything was justified, the ends justified the means, or we could suffer the destiny of our predecessors.
Stories, so many stories, legends of old times, never confirmed, about war, death, betrayal and extinction.
Stories about trillions of bugs destroying, pillaging and killing.
Stories that helped us to win the election.
As a right wing party our promises were more focused on development and survival, against all menaces that hide inside and outside, in deep space.
Time to make those promises come true.
I looked at my portrait, made from a picture took just yesterday.
I turned around and after a few more minutes looking at the window I moved to my desk and started to look some reports.
The Niilgaemun Federation has a population of more than 37 billion souls and a very fragile economy. The unification not only set back our space exploration, but also the development of every core world. Also, more than 20 billion of humans lived at the capital which will create a demographic problem as time passes and place the burden to finance our early exploration over the back of a single planet. Obviously that makes the population of the capital restless.
The other planets have smaller populations. Part of my promises during the elections included a no taxes policy, in order to help on the development and growth of those planets. Their votes represented around 40% of the total and most of it came to us, thanks to promises like that. Sadly, we need time before cutting their taxes.
My thoughts were interrupted by one of my advisors:
-Mr. President, what are your orders?
Mr. President, that’s a word that I will need time to get used to. I was the first of the Jaksun family to get involved in politics.
Before that we were just an industrial family of Niilgaemun 2, which took a great part on the construction of the Capital spaceport. We also control 2 mining stations by 2772.
I ordered him to gather the rest of the senior staff so I had to speak the initial policy only once.
After everyone arrived, I started:
-Ladies and gentlemen’s, my friends and co-workers, as our party controls most of the parliament, we are going to start to pursue the policies decided during our time at the transition office and make our promises to the people come true.
-Our initial policy shall be:
1st: No trade with other empires.
2nd: No tourism
3rd: Our office retains full control of army and fleet creation and assembling.
4th: Full control of research and other policies.
-Mr. President, what about our migration policy?
-Our migration policy shall have 3 different paths. Our expansion will focus on humans, our space is for humans, our people, our electors, meaning that they will have total liberty to move between our colonies. If we meet other races, they shall enjoy freedom on our territory, but they will not be allowed to migrate or colonize other planets. Finnaly, the myths about the cruelty of bug races can not be ignored, if we meet any bug race we shall enforce an emigration, extermination and enslavement policy, according to the circumstances, we will not take any chances with them.
-Next, our design policy. The design bureau will be under our total control and will not design or update any ship without our authorization. Also, we are going to forbid the production of several ships as stated on the diagram below.
-But sir, looks like you have forbade the construction of all civilian ships.
-Yes, I did. We have limited resources and our first priority is to be self-sufficient on all strategic resources, so we are going to focus our activities on construction ships and mining stations. We cant share those resources with civilian ship construction, for now.
-About the transportation of goods. Well, for now, it is going to be made by our current civilian ships, even that makes just a handful of corporations under control of our transportation very wealthy, this is just temporary.
-Our mining stations and construction ships will receive laser blasters and extra shield generators. Also, our colony ship design received an extra reactor in order to allow it to use the maximum speed of its hyperdrive.
-And, for the last, our spaceport on Niilgaemun 2 shall be upgraded to a Capital class design. Basically it is a classic LSP-1 design which increased its labs to 25 of each type, plus improved its construction capacity to 40 ships at the same time, using 10 plants of each type for support. The other changes were cosmetic and related with number of docking bays, reactors, energy collectors.
After discussing other details with my senior staff I issued the orders for the related policy, we moved to the next topic:
-Next step shall be the colonization of 3 continental planets. That was made in order to give a place to our people to emigrate and start a new life. Also, the profit of those trips shall keep the transport corporations alive without help of the state.
-Our research policy shall be focused on the following priorities. First, development of missile weapons, for long range combat. Second, development of a hyperjump inhibitor. As you remember, during the unification wars, some ships of the Emmel alliance used hit and run tactics. Missile weapons and hyper inhibitor shall deal with the problem, in case we face pirates or aliens in the future. Last, for the high tech, we shall focus on develop a way to colonize marsh swamp worlds and expand our colonization possibilities.
For the next hour we discussed secondary priorities for research, it was already getting dark and we came with the following decision:
-Thank you everyone for your attention, I expect those decisions were converted into executive orders by tomorrow morning and those orders were left at my desk for signature. Good night everyone.
-It will be done Mr. President. Good night.
After everyone left I returned to my window and stared at the night sky, what dangers shall hide in deep space? Can we progress and survive in a chaotic galaxy? Also, something else plagues my mind, our scientists were never able to answer how 6 planets developed human settlements. They made many theories, but none of them got some real evidence. I wonder if the galaxy hides other human colonies.
Never mind, I need to sleep, work for 12 hours under the effect of a severe hangover is not healthy, I suppose.
