I'd like to start my first PBEM soon and was considering the Fall Weiss 1939 scenario. However, I read that the current version of the game has AAA issues. Would it be better to pick a scenario in which air power is not a major factor? Should scenarios that involve a low morale force attacking a high morale force be avoided because of the ignore losses bug? How about scenarios with naval units such as Double Eagle-Rising Sun 1904-05, should they be avoided due to supply issues?

There are glitches and little bits and bobs that have been recognized and addressed; however, some of them don't affect gameplay or the 'historical' aspect as much as some might have suggested.
Naval system is basic, yes, but both sides *in case of the Jap-Rus War* have to deal with it.
AAA 'bug'; I run tests and despite the glitch aircraft do get shot down by integrated Flak.

NOW,regarding the ignore losses 'issue' - it has been confirmed *after much pleading to test it* that there is an issue with the combat formula, but... the main reason why the defender got 'benefits' was the AD and the MRPB settings that have not been adjusted to 3.4. *see http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3045873&mpage=1*

Taking all points into account some adjust might be necessary in order for PBEM; but only minor one. Ask your PBEM mate if he/she agrees before you do so.

Klink, Oberst

Thanks for your help. For a scenario like Jap-Rus War, would you recommend New Supply Rules on or off? I think I remember reading somewhere that it's easier to resupply naval units using the old supply rules.

Jonathan,

I would not play Double Eagle Rising Sun v3.0 (that's the one for TOAW 3.4). There is a problem with the naval model.

The earlier v2.1 for TOAW 3.2 does not have that problem.

As far as I know there is no problem with naval units getting supply under 3.4 but you may want to play with the old supply rules anyway due to the land combat component.

Best wishes,
Steve

Thanks for the warning about the DERS scenario. Do most PBEM players prefer to use the old supply rules?

Jonathon,

I can't answer that. I like the new supply rules but the point is if the scenario is older than 3.4 the new supply rules may make a difference to the way units are supplied. The general rule is if the scenario is not specifically for 3.4 or latter then it is safer to use the old supply rules.

Best wishes,
Steve

The naval equipment in DERS is fixed in v3.2.
I can zip you the files if you like.
The old supply rules work best.

Erik,

I would love to see v3.2. My email address is shunwick [at] hotmail [dot] co [dot] uk

My mate has been pestering me for a game of this one for a long time and I keep telling him that he will have to wait for the 3.5 patch.

Best wishes.
Steve
