What does the listing in Red signify for an airbase?

I think it means you are over stacked in some manner.

BTW, the moral of that unit is down to 20. You might want to do something there.

By do something I'm guessing you mean replace then with another unit and stand them down. Yes?

Alor Star has no av support (there are no ground units there at all). The unit has a lot of planes not ready because of the lack of av support.

I would suggest transferring the flyable planes to a base with AV support ASAP and get some AV there to repair the planes that are grounded. You have a week or two (game time) of micromanagement ahead of you to get that unit back into shape.

90 % Long range CAP with droptanks and no support is not going make them happy... All you need to do is get them rest and aviation support to get planes ready.

Hi, you must use 'lrcap' only for TF cover, only for two/three turns (the morale goes
down quickly), and then rest for one/two turns; for the cover of all other things (on
the ground) you must use the normal 'cap'. I say this because in your picture I see no
TF, but the picture is not complete, so forgive me if you knew these things;
however, it serve to noob like me.

You can also use LRCAP to cover different bases or even ground units outside bases. Normal CAP can also cover nearby hexes, if range setting is not 0. However, LRCAP is usually more effective.

When you use LRCAP, always set target.

Well...I use the CAP also for long coverage and it work, but next turns I
try what you say, never do that. The thing holding me back is the great effort
that pilots accumulate in lrcap, but if it is very much more effective, I'll try
it and then decide.

I think if you want to cover specific hex, LRCAP is better. If you want to cover larger area, then use CAP and range settings. I think LRCAP gives you more planes ready to intercept, while it might take more time for CAP fighters to arrive.

But because of fatigue, I rarely use LRCAP.

LRCAP - I have found that its quite useful to set a % (say 30) on LRCAP if you don't know where the enemy bombers might go. Especially useful for covering nearby ships as setting a target only covers 1 TF, by leaving no target unassigned I've found that any TF in range can be protected (sometimes) by the unit in question. Saves micro managing every sqdn and TF when you have multiple TF's at possible risk of air attack.

anyhoo thats just my 2p

One thing I'd adress, beside the pointers already given, is the unit commander. This Major Takeda has an inspiration-skill at 56, which (IMO) is a little low. The unit's low morale considered.

Additionally, I'm surprised none of you recommended an upgrade to the Oscar ... I know Nate's are OK for a little bit, but this shouldn't be considered a front line fighter.

I don't know the date of his game, but it's obviously early. I'd assume he would be upgrading his Nate units as Oscars become available. Same thing with Claudes to Zeros.
