Indeed, what of Legends of War? Wasn't that showcased yesterday but no mention about it.

And what is the unity update for FoG? I play that occasionally so would be interested to know.

No mention yet of what is happening with CoH and potential follow-ons Sorm of Steel etc.

Wodin, if you are holding your breath for advanced/realistic WW2 tactical, I think it is safe to release it now. Not going to happen here or anywhere else in the forseeable future IMO. These days, if it can't go 'Mobile' it isn't getting made.

More on Legends of War will come out soon :) As for the unity update for FoG, it will be updating the game engine, much like with Close Combat. Conflict of Heroes is nearing release, and its product pages are being kept up to date as much as possible.

As for "if it can't go mobile, it isn't getting made" isn't true. It's a great avenue to approach and develop for if it is possible. The demand for Panzer Corps on iPad has shown that players would like to see more and more serious wargames coming to the tablet. I can't fully comment on all of this but I wouldn't be surprised if the rest of the team chimes in :)

Whatever else Panzer Corps is or isn't, it is definately not, IMO, a 'serious' wargame. I haven't played it but it is billed as as the spiritual successor to Panzer General which I did try, years ago. Quite fun but more of a series of puzzles with a military theme than a true wargame.

My knowledge of mobile computing is small; my wife has an I-pad but the impression that I have is that even the new I-pad can't handle anything too heavyweight. BFC, who have jointly produced an I-pad version of Comabt Mission Normandy, agree that it is a lite version of the PC game and that the I-Pad could not handle the original game and won't be able to for the forseeable future.

I can see the economic attractions to getting as much as possible on I-pads, mobiles and so on but I tend to agree with Wodin, that the trend is having an adverse effect on the production and propagation of 'serious/deep' wargame titles. Maybe Kickstarter can provide some salvation in the future as it is starting to do in the fantasy/sci-fi field.

Damn ipads. Every game, with the exception of decisive campaigns, is being made with an eye on those damn ipads\androids! Even the WW1 game will suffer. I know that is where the money is, but this is a sad day for me.

Hmm.. not sure about CC going 3D. It wont be CC then to me. However I like the sound of the next one though.

CC in 3D will work well and maintain the option for the top down perspective that CC gamers are used to, while finally bringing CC forward in terms of its looks and interface to the 21st Century. We're not planning to throw out the baby with the bathwater here. It will be Close Combat.

- Erik

Conflict of Heroes was covered, but as it's very close to release it's not a surprise like the other games. We already have a product page posted for it and have confirmed that work on Storm of Steel is already underway.

I've only bought three computer games in the past ten years.  All three came from Matrix.  They were:  UV, WitP, and WitP:AE.  It's not the monster aspect of the game that's the main draw (I don't like alot of the micromanagement, to be honest):  it's the depth of strategic thinking permitted, the three-dimensinoal warfare (under sea, surface, air) and the instrinsic draw/drama of this theater.

An announcement of something along these lines would definately be of interest, especially if it was called WitP II.  :)

In the big picture, it's not a hard-core wargame but it is definitely a real wargame and if you look at what was on the mobile platforms before we released Battle Academy, I think you'll see Scott's point.

The mobile platforms are getting some focus from us and this meeting is with more mainstream press, so they get even more emphasis. Developing for mobile platforms is something that happens in addition to, rather than in place of, our development for the PC. For a while now we've been taking mobile platforms into account, but it has not changed which games we develop.

Regards,

- Erik

We are far from done making monster wargames. I've been spending a huge amount of time helping get World in Flames finished as well as moving War in the West forward and the "War in Europe" goal that we announced is probably the most ambitious monster wargame project we've attempted.

I would very much like to see a WITP 2 or another game similar to WITP whether in that theater or another. I'm as addicted to monster wargames as you all are. We started this company to make the games we all like to play and we'll keep doing that.

There are other releases planned for the year, but these are the new releases we were ready to announce at the press event.

There should be news on Storm of Steel later.

On Panzer Command, we're finishing up a new update and a new demo - the next release is still in the planning stages so not ready for announcement.

Regarding being underwhelmed - I think once you see some more info on these releases rather than just titles, that may change.

Interesting list, Erik. I'm still from Missouri on tablets and non-PC hardware, but it's been predicted for awhile now so we'll see how it goes demand-wise.

Let me echo what are probably coming posts from The Most Active Forum on MatrixGames (tm) --any chance of a WITP2 this decade? Come on over to the AE forum. Lots of folks will discuss pricing elasticities with you. Also first-borns.

Yep that is it. But the industry seems to be unable to make that yet. Only tried to achieve it with WITP.

For many years I have loved the grand strategic games such as AHs The Longest Day, Europa series, VGs Pacific War, and even futuristic Amarillo Design Bureau's Federation and Empire. All are board games with cardboard counters.

Then I discovered Gary Grigsby's Pacific War in the mid 90's, OMG! I could have my grand strategic game and not have to rent a new home to play it! Then, at Origins in 2006 a nice man with a nickname of "Mogami" at the Matrix Games booth showed my WITP. The house keeping crew needed to bring out a mop. I purchased it and I was in heaven. Then several years later one of my annual Origins friends introduced me to WITP:AE, again, I was smitten.

I purchased Distant Worlds, WITP, WITE, and WITP:AE from Matrix Games. I would really like another grand strategy game like a WITP:AE2, or even ADB's F&E if you could work out something with Steve Cole.

WITP2 would be a great in the next 10 years or so. (So I can finish up my current games).

Also a joint venture between Matrix and Amarillo Design Bureau, Inc to develop Federation and Empire for the computer would be awesome.

We'd love to do F&E or something like it and have made some efforts along those lines in the past without success. While there is goodwill on both sides, the situation is quite complicated so we've made no real progress, but feel free to let Amarillo Design Bureau known that you are interested in this as well. Perhaps if we all hear from enough fans on this we can find a way around the obstacles.

In the meantime, you may want to have a look at Distant Worlds.

Regards,

- Erik

A Matrix version of F&E would be amazing, even if it had no AI (I play the game by myself about once a year as it is and would love to save the table space).

I've posted at ADB's horrible BBS (or whatever their site is) before and always been told this isn't a possibility.

Heck guys, I'd love to have WITP2 but for the time being I'd settle for Carrier Wars picking up where the team left off and finishing it.

While some of the new titles look enticing I have so many land based wargames I purchased from Matrix that get little to no play and the bulk of my gaming goes to WITP AE. WITP AE is not only a reflection of my personal tastes but how well Henderson Field Designs refined the product and the modders and MichealM continuing to carry the torch of the outstanding game.

Bravo!

Now, if only some developers with real talent for UI design could get hold of the license for Third Reich and really do justice to that beauty!!!

There's a reason, a good one, why WITP-AE won "game of the year". It would be an even better game ( WITP-AE 2 ) when it sheds it's DOS user-friendly-ness.
