I'm currently playing Elite on an original BBC micro (1984) The Bards Tale 1 on an Amiga (1985, although the Amiga version was release later than this) and Might and Magic 1 on Windows (1986). I own quite a few retro 8 and 16 bit machines so I find that I play old games quite a bit.

Cheers

I played Railroad Tycoon about a week ago.

I did the same thing last weekend! 1990.

I cant figure it out. RR Tycoon II and III do not work with my 64 bit version of win 7. The original does.

I'm running them fine on Windows 64, both on a laptop and desktop machine. I know it doesn't help, but at least you know that they can work.

Cheers

Mark

I still regularly play Six-Gun Shootout from 1985, the greatest wild west gunfight simulation ever made.

Just found an old Rebel Assault CD while cleaning out the laundry room yesterday...if I can get it to work on my PC now, that'll be one of the oldest (1993)

I remember looking for it on eBay some time ago.

You can play it in 5 mins:

Download emulator from here http://www.ccs64.com/

Then the rom from here http://gamebase64.hardabasht.com/games/s2/SIXGUN_06839_01.zip

Place rom in ccs64 directory, run emulator, then select File, then Load and Run, select the six gun ROM and you're good to go :)

I know, but it's not the same as having the original.

Currently it would be the original Syndicate (GOG version), on my netbook. Such a shame the 'reboot' wasn't a remake rather than a poor Deus Ex clone.

Very fond memories of this one. I shared an Amiga with my flatmates in the early '90s and we had three games, this, Dune 2 and some footie manager thing.

I'm not as impressive as some here. The oldest game I still play regularly is Emperor of the Fading Suns, something that should have gotten a sequel or remake a long time ago.

Yes, the very one I sent to warspite1 to work on G7YBPW.

Ambrose said of Space War - "...called a computer game, but will most likely be the biggest time wasting toy of boys in history..."!

I love Syndicate. I still play it from time to time. Great atmosphere and graphics and lots of fun. I have a full boxed version of it. One thing that I wish for is that it would have rebellion suppression missions on rebelling territories instead of redoing the normal missions.

Thanks. I will give you a good laugh, next time I get thrown under the bus for assuming(CORRECTLY) that a poster was a bot.

That was my very first computer war-game and I played in on an Atari 800. Yes, I am dating myself. When it was released for the Apple, it was touted as the most expensive war-game ever produced.

The oldest game I play on a regular basis (with my 13 year old grandson is the old Combat Mission x1 series (Beyond Overlord, Barbarossa to Berlin, and Afrika Corps).

A few months ago I played a game of Computer Ambush (1981). Can't honestly say I enjoyed it though. The oldest I play regularly is Flight Commander II (1994).

Probably too new compared to these CGA / VGA games, but still enjoy playing Tacops.
and I'd argue that Anglo-German War, even though its relatively recent, looks about as old as it gets.
Reading this game list reminds me of all those times I had to edit himem.sys and tweak autoexec.bat files just to squeeze out a couple of kb to run aces over europe et.al.

Ah, autoexec.bat... you youngster! I bet you thought it tough to find 620kb... back in the day when spirits were brave, the stakes were high, men were real men, women were real women, and small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri were real small furry animals from Alpha Centauri we were getting by with 16, or a massive 48K!! And all dared to brave unknown terrors, to do mighty deeds, to boldly split infinitives that no man had split before - and thus was the Empire forged.

Don't Panic.

LOAD "" is where it is at ;)
