This is perhaps the easier of the two for me. The contest is all about beauty and I have to go for Taiho on that basis. If the contest was about which carrier is the most awesome weapon of war then there is only one winner - sorry Essex.

This is a very difficult one for me. Not that I have trouble distinguishing aesthetics between the two, but the fact that I agree with Warspite1 on all counts. Ugh. That hurts.

Vote for Taiho.

So with a somewhat heavy heart I will plump for Illustrious on the basis that Yorktown's funnel is slightly oversize and I prefer the enclosed bow.. but I wish I could vote for both.

Again. It is with very heavy heart that I say you're absolutely right, Warspite1, old bean.

My vote for Illustrious.

Next exciting competition is er not the most exciting to be frank. Its the:

Least Hideous Beautiful Battlecruiser-turned-Ugly Duckling Aircraft Carrier of WWII

This is another one group of three contest, bottom of three is eliminated.

Akagi (ex-Amagi)
USS Lexington (ex-err Lexington)
HMS Glorious (ex-err Glorious)

Have you got a later picture of Akagi i.e. one with a full length flight deck?

I have to vote for the Essex and Illustrious.

The Least (MOST) Hideous Beautiful Battlecruiser-turned-Ugly Duckling Aircraft Carrier of WWII has to be the Lexington. I think the designers weren't sure what was to built so the had a flat top with big guns built. Maybe they saved money building 2 ships into one, but they weren't bargining on the title "most beautifuliest Flattop ever".

Another toughy due to the difficulty of separating looks and history. First off Lexington is out - she is a floating funnel - yuk. That leaves Glorious, which should have won... but the British did not have enough cash to fully extend her flight deck which makes her look a bit odd. Therefore the Akagi wins this one.

Oh I misunderstood the vote, then I will have to go for the Akagi. I mean all three are terrible in their own way but out of all the three the Akagi managed to come through as the winner.

I almost abstained voting on the last group but in the end I decided that since I have the privilege to vote I have a duty to vote.

I vote on HMS Glorious.

I agree about Glorious. Looks odd. She's out. Then it's down to Akagi and Lexington. Lexington's funnel is breathtakingly large-I'll give you that. But Akagi looks like she's made of plywood and brown balsa. Ick. Advantage (and my vote): Lexington.

dunno - but maybe you can even change the thread-title - so that more "war"-interested people take a look even without any link to it....

then on the other hand... I wish I knew about the thread back then as well :D

I just usually never leave the WITP AE forum ...
