All right, now I'm gonna b!tch about Red's baseball for a minute.

Can we not get a pitcher that lasts more than 5 innings!? It's ridiculous!
Warspite1

Do you have a transfer window?

No transfer window. But he has a window in a nice mental institution.

I never understod why not have 5 pitchers who play two innings each game. But I am from Europe so I am not expected to understand baseball.

That's where you're wrong. You ARE expected to understand football and baseball. And the first thing is: Baseball has, normally, 9 innings, not 10.

I'm so confused with all this stuff. I've not got room in my house for 5 pitchers, but I've got enough wall space for two; a nice print of "The Last Moments of the Hood" and a copy of "The Haywain".

I allowed for one extra inning...after that they have to work extra or get one more pitcher onto the field.

I am Swedish and not from America and, as far as I know, in baseball the singular form is inning and in plural form innings.

In cricket we call it innings - even in the singular. If we call it that, then it must be right.

No, not really - it's a famous painting by John Constable. My mum and dad had one when I was a kid growing up; wonder what happened to it?

No. I searched on google for a suitable picture on the net. I didn't want to put a picture of an actual bug here. This picture were listed as public domain hence I picked it.

It is your own fault nate - you have made the remit too wide by the addition of "and whatever thread". It was a schoolboy error. All you had to do was show a little foresight and call it Nate's college football and other things generally (but not to include Swedish insects called Innings) thread.

OK, Orm, lesson #2: In a majority of 9-inning baseball games, you should only use one pitcher or possibly two. A starter and a relief ((closer) as in close the door), if needed.

Yes. I actually got that part. But as I understand it a baseball team has several starter pitchers because the games are so close that they need to rest between the games. What I am asking is why not use all the starter pitchers in each game for around 2 innings? Would they then not be fresh for next game even if the rest between the games is short.

Do remember that I know very little about real baseball since I live in Europe and no baseball here for me to watch. So please be kind to me in my ignorance about baseball.

Wow. I have to admit I'm stymied by parts of that question in all seriousness.

OK. I've never thought of using pitchers like that. That's "outside the box" for me, as an American, partly because "that's just the way it's done." And I think at a pro level, well, any level really, you expect your pitcher to be good for a certain amt. of pitches that day. I see where you're going with that line of reasoning, but I would want 1 or 2 completely fresh pitchers instead of 4-5 at 80%.

I know it may seem strange, but throwing the ball that hard 70, 80, 90 times a day can be PAINFUL. So resting a pitcher for a few days is crucial.

Man I hope I didn't cloud the issue for you. This is challenging in a good way.

Does that help?
