Status: offline 		Hi everyone. I have a question that I'm sure someone can answer. I have a router. A renter wants to connect to the internet through my router.

The question is. Is it safe to let them do so?

I have a blocker on my browser which will not permit them going to questionable sites sights.

Status: offline 		First question I would ask you/myself. Would I give him my passbook number, or my SSN, or credit card number ? If the answer to any of above is NO ! then don't do it. Even a honest man can accede to temptation. Plus your privacy may get violated etc. One old mans opinion (1OMO)

If you have everything password protected, maybe, but I don't know enough about this stuff.

What brand is your router, and what is the model number.

I am leaning that way. If there was some assurance that they could not access my computer. But I just don't know enough about it.

Hi Junk2drive,

Thats why I'm asking. I'm in the dark about this. If there was some sure protection. I know hotels offer free internet to guests. But They have proof a vistitor used it. My question is. What if the people make a terrorist threat using my internet connection or some other criminal action. Could I be held responsible..

Today is April 14. Snow in the Southern California mountains!!. We recieved about an 2 inches

What business are you running; an Al Qaeda training camp? Seriously, it has to be a matter of realistic risk. Sure, the police are likely to be along asking questions if your renter made a terrorist threat online, but then they would be along if he turned out to be the mad axe murderer as well. How likely is either scenario? The only significant risk would be accessing 'dodgy' porn sites and such, but you seem to have that angle covered.

On the flip-side, is internet access a facility you need to offer to attract tenants?

You know that the service does not have to be offered. I have them renting presently. Its easier If i just say I can't offer the internet.

Yes your right about the threats. I really wasn't expecting the extreme. That example was intended to find out exactly what my risk could be. And I do have the porno covered.

So your saying there would be little risk. Just for my knowledge.

Status: offline 		You should be able to access the routers online control panel.

Type 192.168.1.1 in your browser address field.

A screen will appear asking for user name and password, leave these blank and click the OK button.

Along the top(or left side) locate Internet Access Policy tab and select it. There should be a tab to select here, maybe Policies or something similar. In this section you will be able to block websites with keywords. This is labeled Blocking by Keyword. Enter as many keywords as you think you need such as "kiddie porn"...

Then save settings.
