I did not think that any of the belligerents used poison gas in WW2. However, while at a training course one of the trainers stated quite emphatically that the Japanese used it in China and there was some evidence that it may have been used on the Eastern front. Can anyone confirm if this was truth or fiction?

Unit 731.  More infamous for biological warfare rather than chemical.

This is an odd event I came across that concerns the allied shipment of mustard gas.

I think he is right about Japan; the Chinese think so anyway. Not sure about the Eastern Front, though; it doesn't really seem like Russian 'style' and Hitler was always totally 'anti' probably as a result of both fear of reprisals and his own WW1 experiences. Unlike just about everybody else I don't think the Germans even had any stockpiles of chemical weapons.

Errrrm. I suppose the discussion is about combat use, but wouldn't "gas chambers" fit the bill?

From what I've read the Germans did have stockpiles of chemical weapons but never used them because they thought the Allies were advanced as they were.

The Germans had " nerve gasses " etc. and the Allies really only had what was used in WWI.

Wikipedia has more information about this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chemical_warfare

This also confirms what I remember about Italy using chemical weapons in the 1930s in their African campaign.
