The heading says it all.
Is the UI still hard coded or can it be customized yet? Some of the buttons could do with be re-worked.

Nope, I'm afraid the UI is still off limits. It's just the same old buttons and icons that we've always been able to change in the main directory files.

Have you been playing Legends? The new character system is fun, but a pain to mod. If you're interested, I should have the Picard Era released by the end of the month.

Hey Drillerman

I have to agree... I am having a lot of fun with characters... but it is difficult to mod...
AND as I have said before, it would be neat to have some telepathic capabilies for a character, even if it is limited to making them more difficult to kill, or increasing the potential for successful missions...

This has always been a bugbear of mine. I love the game but hate the UI. Being a bit of a GFX whore, It actually puts me off playing sometimes. How sad is that?
However, I do find it hard being the emperor of a Galactic empire when I look into my screen and see a "magnifiying glass, a revolving red attention light, a light bulb, a hammer, a compass and protractor, etc etc etc.
It sort of destroys the immersion for me.
What do you guys think.

I can HONESTLY see that.
I do not have the game in front of me, but I know I have replaced a number of those sorts of pictures with my own...

Is there not a UI directory whereby you can replace some of those images?

Status: offline 		In Distant Worlds/images/ui, some of those images can be replaced, but I don't think all of them can.

I can definately see where you're coming from d-man.

Yes tried that when the game first came out a couple of years ago.
Also, you may notice that the lines around the buttons look untidy if you zoom to a bright star and move the screen around (there are some screen shots on these boards somewhere). I pointed this out a few times over the last couple of years but the devs didn't seemed too bothered, which was a shame. The UI could be sooooo much better, smarter and more "in keeping" with the Sci-Fi image that the game is about rather than seeing a "hammer" or "zzzzzzz" overlaid on a spaceship.

Oh, did you not hear. Starfleet under learned to communicate with the Kaltors in 2215, and now several of them joined starfleet as couriers...
