I got creamed on 12/7 and have a couple banged up ships, including the Pennsylvania. Below are her stats. Can I get her to LA or SF, or is she just going to sink. All minor flooding is fixed . . .

For sure first you need to repair sys damage. Leave her in pierside repair mode for some time.
Later all will depend have many space you have in PH dry dock.
If you rely have to evacuate that ship now to WC it will be long trip with 50/50 chances.
I think on your place i will repairs sys to "0" and later flood below 50 in dock and after that i will sail to WC.

21 major flotation damage should not take more than 3-4 months. at lest what is see how my BB are repairing in my game so in 4-5 moths he will be ready to sail.
Sail will take one month or more plus next few month in dry dock in WC.
He will be ready to return to service on second half of `43(if he survive trip).

if the fires are out, she won't sink.

i agree w/ koniu - repair all the sysdam before you try to move her. & w/ 71float, move her *only* at cruise speed. you can't afford to take a torp from an I-boat lurking off the WC, you'll need to give her a staunch ASW escort to a port w/ active ASW aircover.

if you've got space in PH docks, give her a month or 2 there to knock some float points down. i'm of 2 minds on this - is it best to fully repair the sysdam in pierside before going into shipyard mode, or should you go directly to shipyard? if you intend to move her, i'd go w/ pierside until all sys & non-major engine damage is repaired.

& again koniu is right - even a little optomistic - if you sail her to WC w/ 50 float, she'll suffer add'l damage during the trip, adding a month or even more to repair time. leave her in PH 'til the float is < 40.

you'll be needing space in PH yards for CA/CL upgrades, but note that while some upgrades req yard space to begin, most can be xferred from yard to pier after they've started, w/ no time-loss. so you can keep your yard focused on damage-repair. keep an eye on your PH yard & don't let it turn red.

Many of the old BBs have long upgrades (up to 9 months), cannot recall if the Pennsylvania's are on of them, I think so. Taking what has been said above, which I agree with completely, you should aim at having her in a WC dry-dock (Bremerton is best) for the start of her long refit - that way your doing both the repair and refit at the same time. She should be ready to go with 2500+ AAA by late 43 or worst case Jan/Feb 44. Get her below 50 float damage though, they can go down fast mid transit.

Repair the sys & minor Eng damage. Sys damage includes abiliity to fight flooding, so it is critical to have that minor damage repaired. And as always, remember to put TF to CRUISE speed to avoid extra sys damage from mission speed to accumulate, when moving her.

I wouldnt take her or other crippled ships out of PH, let it repair some. If those ships doing very slow speed getting destination, its going to be very easy target for the enemy subs. You can however grab some repair ships and send it to Pearl and keep them there til fully repaired. What the shipyard size in PH? if below ten, try upgrade them to ten. Gonna take awhile to repair the cripple and while that going on with repairships, the shipyards is also expanded as well. So bring alot of engineers if you plan to do so.

Hah- and don't do what I did and turn repair of industry off- forgetting that means PH shipyard isn't repairing damage from 7th Dec- I found out 9mths later that it was actually a size 100 shipyard (damaged), not a size 53 shipyard

A little off topic, but every time I play this and the Pennsylvania gets hit by torps I have to smile. Remember at the time of the PH attack she was sitting in dry dock.

I wonder if this could be fixed by setting her as being in some sort of repair mode in the editor to start out with? Or would that render her impervious to attack?

Well, if the pilot timed it just right, he could place the torp on the hull in drydock just like a dive bomber, could he not?

as the Allied you can't increase the repair yards and PH's yard is 100 anyway. And there is no ARD big enough for a BB at this date.

I just had a midget sub torpedo a British CL sitting in drydock in Sydney. We'll have to live with these events.

Ah well that too bad, let the ship repair some system damage and some floation first then have many escorts to San Diego or whatever you are going.

I moved the pennsylvania from Pearl to the WC with about 80 flotation damage-after removing all sys damage. But sweated it whole trip as her damage kept going up and down. She did make it. However, I do not recommend doing this unless you fear that Pearl will be attacked again. (unlikely) The point is this is not a critical ship. You do not need her tomorrow to win the war. After her refit, she along with any old BB will be useful for supporting invasions. Go ahead and repair flotation at Pearl. Take the time and get her down below 50. You should be able to move her safely after that. You are talking a year but you won't really need her.

The other thing to consider is the game allows you to switch modes without delay from dry dock to pier side. If you have nothing that nees to be put in the PH dry dock, throw PA and any other old BBs in there. If then you have say a carrier that arrives with battle damage, just take the BBs out until the critical ships are repaired. I would agree with the get FLOT below 50 unless you absolutely need to get her out.
