I have worked out how to read the Victory screen and the Game Results screen!

The 5 victory levels are:

1. Decisive Victory
2. Major Victory ( the manual has an error)
3. Marginal Victory
4. Pyrrhic Victory
5. Draw

See screen shot below. This is taken at the completion of a game.

In each scenario, one side is considered to the Attacker and the other side is the Defender.

Press “V” to bring up the “Victory Objectives” screen. Where you see the words:
Decisive Victory: 250
Marginal Victory: 200 to make it clearer you should read these like this:

Attacker Decisive Victory: 250
Attacker Marginal Victory: 200

In this scenario, the attacker must achieve a minimum of 200 points. If he does not then the Defender automatically gets a Marginal Victory.

The Game Results screen is a mock up of how I feel it ought to look.

In the screen shot the Allies were the Attacking Side. You (the reader) can tell that the Allies were the attacking side because the “Effect on Victort Level -2” is in the Allied column.

The Allies failed to achieve the minimum 200 points so the preliminary result is that the Axis achieved a Marginal Victory.

Then you amend this by taking into consideration the losses of both sides. There is a formula in paragraph 7.1 of the manual. As a result of this calculation we get a “-2” in the Allied column. If the Axis had been the attacker this would appear as a “+2” in the Axis column.

And so it is the Axis victory level jumped two levels from Marginal to Decisive. ( Allied -2 is the same as Axis +2 )

If the Attacker ( the Allies) had scored 250 points the preliminary result would be an Allied Decisive Victory then apply the “-2” and the final result is a Marginal Victory or;

If the Attacker ( the Allies) had scored 200 points the preliminary result would be an Allied Marginal Victory then apply the “-2” and the final result is a Draw.

Hi Joe

Thanks for the info - makes sense. Must admit never really looked at this before. Unfortunately not really intuitive how it works out and is displayed.

Looking at the Reserve Point table in the Manual, p46, I wonder why Allies get half the reserve points of the Axis? Or is it that the column heading should be Attacker and Defender rather than Allies and Axis? What do you think?

Cheers
