OK, so my understanding is that a net-layer is what you use to lay the anti-sub netting at the mouth of a harbour. That part I get. But how would one go about representing it in game? Would you make it a YP and give it a few DCs to represent its 'net' or something else?

I can see why these were left out, the game has no way to know how to handle them.

There's a Kangaroo net tender at Class 2771 and bitmap 346. I snuck it in (along with some other AEaster eggs) when Joe let me "update" the ship art, way back when for the full update #2 .

All that needs to be done is shorten her up a few pixels and stretch the deckhouse aft a bit. The stock code can't play AN, so I made the Class as ACM, but vessel will play with Zygotes

Here she be ... you want me to make her look more Bar'ish? Can do in a heartbeat.

As I understand, the Kangaroo (three units) were oil-fired updates of the basic Bar class (bunch-o units), which were coal fired. What pictures I can find of the Bars differ considerably - maybe due to arrangements for the different fuel??

Don's Zygotes already has the Kangaroos.

What would you classify a net layer as for game purposes? There doesn't seem to be a category to put them in. How would they function in game?

They are ACM in babes. Help maintain harbor defences, so it is close.

Just wondering if you couldn't simulate the net as ultra-low damage mines, with the net layers considered as mine-planters. I'll admit I haven't looked deeply enough into the mine-warfare system to know how well it would work, and whether a mine hit would trigger reaction from the defensive ships in harbour, but the only issue that pops immediately to mind would be making sure the AI (or players trying to game the system) couldn't lay them in open water.

I was reading something recently, probably in 'Nelson to Vanguard', noting that this was an issue for the US, with lots of ship's services requiring power whether you were at sea or not, but not for the RN, which had more basic facilities and basically shut down while in harbour. I'd suspect the Japanese were closer to the British model.
