This is the kind of little thing that I didn't notice in the past, that makes this game so fun:

I have a CV off the coast of Tunisia, attempting to interdict Italian shipping and escorts (not a wise thing really, since my CV is at great risk to land-based air attacks). I make contact with an Italian naval patrol, so attempt an air strike. My CV air strike is intercepted by LAND-BASED Italian fighters, who are flying combat air patrol over their shipping!

Now that's good stuff. Kudos Wastelands. The naval and air action in this game is really fun and interesting.

Another awesome thing I just confirmed in action: my fighters stationed around the Ruhr are attempting intercepts of British strategic bombardments.

Intercept is one of the things working pretty well in the game (I could pick some nits but...) overall it is pretty simple and appears to work pretty well. One thing I have noticed (I always seem to find at least some fault...) is that Airborne don't seem to get intercepted when they drop (or if they do its pretty rare).

Yes I agree. The air war system in this game is simple and works well.
There are few things I would fault but nothing I would consider a major problem.

The Naval combat system needs some tweeking though. Air power rules the sea which is as it should be I suppose but I do think it should be a little easier to engage the enemy in ship to ship combat.
At least with surface vessels anyway. I'm ok with subs being hard to engage. But the Kriegsmarine should be able to park a couple of cruisers or BB's in the English channel and sit there for months avoiding a massive RN fleet sent to engage them without even a scratch.

Although I would say that most of the Naval issues would be considered minor as long as the convoy system is overhauled so that they could be escorted and actually have a chance of getting through enemy subs. Its frustrating to have half of the RN fleet in a sea zone attempting to protect a convoy that is completely destroyed by a couple of subs. Were they on a tea break when the wolf pack came in and sent 30 cargo ships to the bottom.
