I'm interested in actual ships that were under construction when the war ended that (probably) would have been completed if the war continued to the end of 1946. Appreciate any ideas and especially artwork!

For the USN

All three Midways.
All Essex except Iwo Jima
All DD that were laid down by 8/45.
Many cruisers, including Juneau Class
Lots more.

Questions for US would be the Des Moines and Worchester classs. Could any make it??

Status: offline 		Unlikely. The USN was drastically dialing back naval construction in 1945, even while they were stil getting ready for Downfall.

I think you are right. With laying down dates in early 1945, such large ships of new class had zero hope of being ready by the end of 1946.

Status: offline 		I think it would mainly be what was on the slips already, both for the US and the Brits. The Jap shipbuilding industry will be largely crushed by then anyway.

But that doesn't take into account the much stronger Japanese capability that exists in most WitP games. By Jan 1945 there was no Japanese Navy to counter. If there had still been carriers and other surface ships extant, I think that the building programs would have continued unabated.

RN DDs: 8xCo, 8xCh, 4xCr (RCN), 16xBattle(1942), 16xBattle(1943/from 43 Estimates), 8xBattle(1943/from 44 Estimates), 2xStretched Battle(1943/from 44 Estimates), 2xBattle(1944)(RAN),20xWeapon, 8xG Some of these were in transit in the Pacific at close of hostilities, others hadn't even been laid down, and not all would have come to the Pacific, but the potential is there.

RN Escorts: a few Lochs and Bays made it through to the Far East, but the totals are 28xLoch, 26xBay planned to complete, and 54 more Lochs were cancelled that theoretically could have completed as either.

RN CLs: Minotaur class: Minotaur (as HMCS Ontario), Swiftsure, Superb - all complete, Hawke, Tiger, Blake, Defence, Bellerophon not launched by 1945, though at least some hulls were complete enough to launch.

RN BBs: Vanguard

RN CVLs: Colossus Class: Colossus, Glory, Venerable, and Vengeance, 11th Aircraft Carrier Squadron, en route at end of hostilities together with Pioneer (Maintenance Carrier), Ocean, Warrior, Theseus and Triumph, together with Perseus (Maintenance Carrier), due before end of '46 (only Theseus and Triumph yet to commission at close of hostilities).

Majestic Class: Majestic, Terrible, Magnificent, Hercules, Leviathan, Powerful, all launched, could potentially have been in commission by late '46.

Centaur Class: Centaur, Albion, Bulwark, Elephant, Monmouth, Polyphemus, Arrogant and Hermes. Laid down in 1944, might just be able to commission early ships before end of '46, '47 more likely.

RN CVs: Audacious Class: Africa, Irresistible, Audacious and Eagle. Somewhat speculative as to whether there is any chance to complete these in time, I'm not even sure Africa and Eagle had any significant construction done before cancellation in late 1945, Audacious launched early 1946 (as Eagle), Irresistible was delayed until 1950 (as Ark Royal), but may not have been far behind her.

Status: offline 		THere would have been the addtional ships with in a class like the Clevelands, Alaskas, Iowas, Fargos, etc. So the question is would you reduce these to add the Montanas, Saipans, and Des Moines along with a few other classes from the RN, Royal Dutch Navy, Marine Nationale. Since I haven't completely messed with the editor is there a limit on the number of ships we can put into game?

Put it this way...you can add every projected hull through 1948 and not fill the database up fully. Its not a question of having room, its a question of being even remotely realistic about what could have been put in the water prior to Japans full collapse.

Just to clarify, there are 20,000 slots for ships in the database.

That is the problem is realistic about what could be available by what dates to make the 1946 date time frame. So it would make sense then that most of the ships at least in the US which had been authorized and which were in the yards being build and which were still months from even being laid down. The other question is how many of the auxillaries, Liberty, Victory, C4 Hulls and T2 Hulls would have been finished if the war time funds didn't dry up by mid 1945 with the end of the war coming. The hard part I think would be to try and sift through the data and make decisions on whether a ship like the USS Tidewater AD-31 should be included but some of the others in the same class such as the USS New England AD-31 shouldnt' be included. The same could be said the same about the auxillarys of the Royal Navy too I think and the same of the hulls that would have been assoicated with thier wartime building plans and even more so as most of Europe started to make the transition more quickly from a war time mind set to a peace time setting.
